Something went wrong, ordered a Mustang, yet ended up in a British hotrod, I blame OcUK!

The yellow looks epic, not sure on the black wheels though. Needs these

They suite it and I’m not a fan of black wheels all my previous cars that and with black wheels the EVO and SVR were both changed to graphite, only 911 was left gloss black which was also yellow.

The dealership did offer to paint them but strongly advices against it because the car is in the spec as intended with gloss black roof, black sports side sills along with other black accents it all ties in!

Yes those are gorgeous wheels, they were on the black car I test drove, first one and really attracted me to it and at £4500 is a good price as they are 8k new if I could get them for 3k I might grab them shall maybe mail the seller. They are a very photogenic wheel also!

In the flesh the basic five spoke design looks much better and the wheel design does not get so lost been gloss black because spikes are thin and behind them is huge callipers so the design is not lost but in photos they do not photo as well.

First and main priority if all goes through is to attempt to recover the ceramic disc with sintered pads and just enjoy the car and I’d rather get another chunk paid off the car before buying, wheels, exhaust etc and if I want louder or the on and off bark annoys me I’ll disconnect the valves and just go for always noisy. :D

In fact who am I kidding probably be done in first week of ownership, lol!

Is it just me or the lighting, where the nearside part of the front bumper where it meets the wing is a darker shade than the rest rest of the car? I imagine it being the lighting but it just caught my eye. Still can’t fault the car looks mint as it can for the age tbh.

Well spotted I can see it in some photos I took some less and some more, some not at all.

It is a colour changing paint due to angle, reflections etc but I’ve still sent an email with pictures that show it best and asked the question if it’s had paint but could just be angles of light as in some photos I took it looks perfect. I shall upload some tonight once I’m back at home.

Yes, sometimes it’s just cameras picking it up differently than to what the eye may see in person. Good to ask, and to check again as it only seems to be that bit of the bumper. Look forward to the photos.

Yes will ask and shall really examine that area but in person we both went over the car in detail and well did not spot anything.

It’s either the wing or bumper maybe a smart repair for a scratch or it’s nothing at all.

See what dealership says. :)

I assume it's the lighting, that surely would have been noticeable in person

In person could not notice anything, I've watched a few youtube videos of other yellow ones and in some the same can be seen so yes assuming lighting and angles, or maybe even a slight difference in shade or how light bounces simply because the bumper is plastic and wings metal, which can result in a minor colour difference. But in person I did not spot anything.

But yeah it has had me stressing lol!

I checked my photos and zoomed in on a few and you can see in some its hardly noticeable and in others more so, seems very much down to angle and lighting:

As you can see in some it looks fine in others can be seen, but looking in close on some pictures of the SVR and Lambo similar can be seen as well, hence it most likely is lighting and angles, reflections etc.
Still I am very OCD so shall see if Ferrari can see anything and when I collect shall also place close attention and shall probably take a paint depth gauge too and measure every panel.

It just has to be perfect, have to say 458 shopping has not been easy, every car has had well some kind of issue, problem with buying used beggers cannot be choosers:
2011 Black: Bad smell, otherwise drove great, sounded awesome and brutal shifts.
2012 Black: Crack on diffuser, paint chips where should not be like a sign of a wing removed and signs of filler, car felt not as quick.
2010 Red: Missed three services, wonky bonnet and ex-demo
2014 yellow: Done at least a track day or two and the ceramics have been miss-used causing excess wear, possible paint miss match.

I think this is why its crucial to drive several of same car model and if wherever possible drive a brand new one, I did that with Golf R, took a brand new one out, then found a used one that well drove lie the new one. :)

Still as long as no signs of major issues I shall go ahead with the purchase as the car was immaculate!

For those who want to do some investigatio, the registration on the car and it shall come with is "F2 YEL" which is a pretty cool plate, but feel I shall put G18 WTF on the car.

I've done searches and F2 yel has visited hand car washes, what a sin!
It also attended a Gray Paul Ferrari GB organised track day at Donnington May 2nd 2017 and its been spotted at several car meets, Goodwood etc. so enthusiast owned and well used.
If I heard correct its a 2 owner car, I shall be 3rd, mileage is 14,500 and the next three services are FOC which is around £3500 worth (7yr service pack).
What I could see of underside it looked brand new, suspension components and bushes looked brand new, all round, guessing its been a dry stored car and Ferrari did say they'd not allow test drives in the wet which says its being rather pampered.

I was going to suggest a paint depth gauge just for peace of mind even if Ferrari confirm it hasn’t had anything of the sort.

Having looked at pictures online they all seem to have that colour shift from bumper to wing so I am going to assume is just normal due to different material.

I thought I’d mention it because for the money involved it should be close to perfect as possible.

No and thank you, car has to be spot on at this money, I already pretty much made Ferrari to agree to goodwill jesture should a damper fail within three months of ownership as Ferrari warranty does not cover oil leaks on dampers and it is the cars weak point, £3000 a pair.

Yes I checked some other 458's in yellow in pictures and videos and there does seem to be a colour shift from bumper to wing.
I also showed the pictures to a couple of friends, one is a detail guy and other painter, both said its not painted, just an effect of a very deep pearl paint and the way the light hits it and angles, told me not to worry and to stop giving Ferrari a headache.

Just removed my RS30 battery from SVR, think I will ask Ferrari to fit that for me on day I collect just in case the 458 decides to go in a bad mood should battery go or the tracker goes wild.

stick a little one in the window

Thats what Ferrari said they will do, then its upto me as most owners just throw it in the front boot and just say ah officer it fell off and I forgot about it.

Not sure why cars need front plates, apart from front facing cameras, but many motorbikes don't have a front plate.

Wouldn't a tiny (obviously illegal) plate be seen as taking the **** more than just having a full size one in the boot and claiming it fell off...

Maybe but I've being putting small plates on my cars for sometime now as have friends, never had any issues with Police, I think as long as the font is correct font and the letters are not crazy small they are quite OK with it because it is still perfectly readable and recognisable by camera/ANPR.

Hi there

Got a private buyer coming for SVR on Friday, he sounds pretty genuine as currently has a V6S which he has sold.
But I want to make sure I am safe, what do I need to do in order to make sure I don't get ripped off?

I assume the only way is to not let him leave until funds are in my bank and I've moved the money from my current account to my savings account?
So he needs to do a same hour transfer over the counter or phone with his bank?

Pretty much; keep in mind any test drives obviously need to be insured from his side. I'd always check for a valid drivers license also. Keep your wits about you, any sign of funny business, call it out. It's generally a good idea to have a friend present also.

With payment, you can CHAPS or Bankers Draft (or even cheque), but just make sure funds are cleared. If for whatever reason you choose cheque, funds showing in your account aren't the real deal until the cheque has fully cleared. Stuff like if the buyer is paying cash, make sure you count it fully. Your bank can confirm that funds have been cleared on the phone, which would negate you having to move funds about - though I'd do the same also.

He offered bank transfer or bankers draft though was unsure if latter was still something that can be done.
Once he does it I shall log in and move into saving account anyway as just reassurance for me as once its in there it is not coming out.

No test drives and he shall view at OcUK, I won't have people coming my house. :)

Bankers draft is still a thing, I'd be looking at getting some sort of proof of address from the guy, this way you can chase him up for whatever reason.

The standard fraud is for a cheque to be paid, bank confirms all is ok. Cheque turns out to be duff, funds get taken from the account. If you're going down that route make him pay a deposit for the car, wait for the funds to clear (and ensure validity) and then hand over the keys and the relevant paper work.

I won't accept cheque.
Told him I will only accept a bank transfer either done over the counter (ideal) or he calls his bank and makes transfer.
No test drives, I shall drive.

He is selling his car Wednesday to trade, will catch train up on Friday to view and purchase mine.
His email address and signature would suggest he is managing director of this company:
http://prospect-solutions.co.uk/

Seems to have being around a few years so looks fairly legit. :)

Out of interest, why won't you allow a test drive, even if he is comprehensively insured? Personally I wouldn't buy a car without a test drive.

I'd rather not, I've said to him upon valid proof of driving license, passport and insurance he can.
Still you can assess plenty from the passenger seat too.

But sorry I am not happy to let total strangers test drive a car, I have no idea of their ability and don't need the stress if they prang it, you can certainly tell from the passenger seat if a car is fine or not.

Just how I feel about the subject, for those unhappy, fine don't buy the car, I can just trade it in. :)

That's fair enough, I suppose in the world of performance cars it may work slightly differently, his car ownership history may play a part too.

For example, would you let someone test drive the Clio, should you be selling it?

I'd rather not with any car to be honest, as I have no idea of the person, but yes I'd be less worried as the financial implication is far far less.
I've shotgun in cars before I was looking to buy and for me I can find everything out I need to know about the car from passenger seat, as to how it drives, well if you want to know that you should have test drove with a dealership, that is what I did with Golf R I used dealerships to test drive new ones, I then searched for used ones, and I was able to tell from the passenger ride it had warped brakes, the owner wanted me to drive it also so I did and indeed the brakes were warped, but a deal was still done. :)

Internet is a small world, guy on another forum took these photos on a track day at Donnington in 2017:

It has being properly used, but it explains the brake wear, it shall also be enjoyed in a similar fashion by myself. :)
