Sony a7r2 thread

I can't get passed that they still don't have real raw files.

It seems that the so called 'raw' files are still the same as previous versions of the a7 range. Images appear to fall apart adjusting past 2 EV in post. Surely it would be easier for them to actually just save the raw data without forcing you to have every shot post processed in camera, it renders the camera useless for any of my work.

It would be a understandable situation for a £300 entry level camera, however at around £4000 including a piece of glass it makes no sense to me.

Although I appreciate everyone needs different things from a camera, to me it does not offer anything better than what already exists.

Overall a nice bit of kit, however I can't take it seriously. Maybe the next one will actually be a real contender.

I'm still tempted :o

Yeah, I can't understand why Sony ruin their class bearing sensors with horrendous 11bit lossy compressed RAWs. Just shove an actual RAW file option in there or pity sake.

Cant say i have had any issues with the RAWs on my A7R. It would be nice to have the option but its not something on my want list. Im waiting for a global shutter before i even consider upgrading.

It was mentioned as something they 'could' look into in a firmware update. I very much doubt it though.

For most people it probably doesn't matter, but it would be better to at least have the option.

A7rii looks very nice, I've been contemplating ditching my D750 for one of the Sony's, most of my shooting is landscape, travel and architecture so I don't see why either the A7rii or A7ii couldn't replace it for a smaller, lighter package... the possible RAW issues concern me a little though.

The D750 is hardly big

Depends which prime though.

The ones I have in mine won't make that much difference to me lol

Your right though, as far as DSLR's go and especially Full Frame the D750 (and maybe the Canon 6D) are about as small as it gets, I think its partly for the days when I can't be bothered lugging something that I think an A7 and the tiny 35mm f2.8 would be a great combo.

I would really be checking the wights of these things if I was you, there is really not much in it at all.

There is 200g difference in body weight with a single battery. But the D750 will take way more photos on a single battery, as soon as you have normalized battery life you have the same weight. Then have a look at the lens weights, they often way more than Nikon or canon equivalents!
Nikon 70-200mm F/4.0 is 850g, Sony FE is 840g, Canon is a mere 760g.

You can just buy prime lenses for the D750 if you want to make it smaller

If you want something light and small then you need a camera with a smaller sensor.

I think you would rather have a M43 camera TBH, much lighter.
