Sony Bravia 2015 Range...

I'm still rocking the PZ80, fantastic set. My in laws have a new £1500 panny lcd and whilst its nice and bright, mine has a better picture still and its 6 years old!

I'm waiting for a 50inch oled that's around 1k before i even consider upgrading.

£1k OLED will be a long way off at 50" I fear. There aren't many better TVs to be stuck with than the PZ80 though! I Practically gave away my PZ80 back in 2011. It was (and probably still is) a brilliant set... almost worth keeping as a spare!

Yep, My 50" PZ80 is still in my living room and is still a fantastic TV for what must be 7 years old now. It really is great at everything - contrast, colour, motion and it even acts as a radiator during the winter :).

I had the 42" PZ85B and I currently have a 50" GT50.

I'll be honest in terms of picture quality there isn't much between the two. The GT50 is better but the different isn't as big as what you would think it is or people make out between models and generations.

It's just that my GT50 is a lot bigger, a lot slimmer, a lot lighter, uses considerably less electricity, smart features included and 3d, etc.

I sold mine for £130 and tbh it's recipients didn't even know what they were getting. They thought it was some crappy old set and couldn't tell it was superior to their LCD's and ended up putting it into a rental property.

I've never seen a VT65B or ZT65B but I seriously doubt the jump in quality is that big either.

It's the same with headphones once you hit a certain level the law of diminishing returns hits in. I have momentums, hd25-1 II's, dt770's, hd600's, q701's and have owned x1's and he400's.

once you hit mid-upper range there isn't much in it between that and the best of the best.

The thing with TVs and picture quality is that the average person just doesn't care. You can get used to a picture pretty quickly, and if you haven't got something to compare it to or have an eye for it, most people just can't tell.

This is a true conversation I had with my wife after I had spent a few months getting her to agree to a TV upgrade, and a few months making her sick researching it. I'd got a Sony W905, set it up, we'd been watching it for a few hours:

Me: So what do you think of the picture then?
Wife: Looks pretty good, but I haven't got my glasses on, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.
Me: <rolls eyes>

My mother-in-law has had Freeview for the last few years, and I had to explain that the channels with "HD" after them are high definition. I'm always asking my brother-in-law why he's watching the SD version of a channel on his Sky box instead of the HD version "Oh, it won't be any different... oh wow, it's actually much clearer", etc, etc..

your right the average person doesn't care or is ignorant to the difference.

my wife watches SD versions because they come in the list before the HD versions on virgin media.

my dad seems to think there is no difference between SD and HD on sky, he cannot see it but it's pretty obvious to me. he said it's the exact same picture just that the volume is quieter so that's why he watches the SD version on sky.

but then the average person will go out and spend £1-£2K on a tv no problem at all and just pick whatever the sales guy tells them is the best in the store. then proclaim to everyone they know that their tv is the best.

the guys in Currys are miles better than they were 3 years ago, they'll actually help you quite a lot....their 4K LEDs i've seen recently are fantastic, but they dont display anything over 60'' which is a real bummer

Still not so sure with the purple shirt brigade, however most of the bigger stores have in-house Samsung and Sony reps working there full time. Those are the guys to speak to, I was pleasantly surprised at how much they know off the cuff, with regards to supported audio/video codecs.

yes but it's hard to make my mind up, because the best bargains are definitely on Ebay, the TVs i've seen are as good as my plasma......but two years ago they were pretty bad, so the improvement in LEDs is huge over this time, it therefore makes sense that a 2015 tv is better than a 2014 version..........fingers crossed !

Anyone know if Currys or Richer Sounds have the 2015 Bravia range yet? If nobody knows, I'll call tomorrow to enquire. Certainly about due now.

Called in to Richer Sounds on Friday.

It was quite funny when I asked if they knew when the new Sony Bravia range was landing, all Richer Sounds personnel in the immediate area began to chuckle. The guys went on to say that Sony are repeatedly pushing back and they themselves don't know when to expect stock. Their latest guess is mid-late June

The chap I was speaking with did say they've had a phenomenal amount of people interested, with names and numbers in their diary they have to ring once stock arrives.

I'm focusing my attention on a new home cinema system in the interim now

I've just been into Costco and they have the W807C (Silver version of the W805C) available now. That was a 50". I see a 55" is still to come from the Sony website. I'm waiting for that!
