Sony Ericsson Android XPERIA

I have to say after seeing that final product unboxing I much prefer the Nexus One due to using Android 2.0/2,1 - the UI is just much nicer than SE's Rachel UI and 1.6 did seem to snag with some minor framerate issues during the demo.

I like the 8.1MP camera though but other than that I'd have the N1 if I had the choice over the two.

It also doesn;t look like it will have a charging dock because there is no USB charger socket on the bottom, the socket is on the top so no standup charging over night to be able to use deskclock or whatever - shame.

 So is this defiantly going to have 1.6 and not 2.1 when it officially comes out?

Yes.

Why does this put poeple off the device? As Sony Ericsson don't use a standard built of Android 1.6, as it has most of the features from 2.1. However, SE have said the device will be upgrade to 2.1 & 2.2 very shortly. The upgrade will bring a massive improvement in speed and battery life according to the Sony Ericsson blogs.

It’s not a snag in the frame rate, its due to information being pulled in over a mobile phone network I believe.

Genuine question, why do you say 2.0/1 is a better UI? What can you do that you can't with the X10.

I think that point about the usb port is valid, but to be honest ive never used a desktop stand to charge my phone. However, as everyone is different this may affect some people not others.

Looks like 1.6.

Can't see an official answer to when/if 2.1 is coming out for it.

Correct.

I don't believe there has been an official release date set yet, but SE have stated that it will be this year that’s the upgrade is done. However, there are a few rumours going around that 2.1 will be released in April and 2.2 in Q4 2010.

I much prefer the stock Android look of 2.1/2.0 - the bouncy soft edges, the clean interface, the SE one looks nice but it's too blue, too....girly?....

I Prefer SenseUI in comparison from all that I have seen so far.

I'll stick to my original plan of a HTC Bravo class device, HTC know the score.

That last video has me sold, the interface looks so much more grown up and less cluttered than HTC Sense.

Also looks very sexy, the best looking current gen phone.

I am sold. Straight to the T-Mobile shop come release time.

To be honest I'm still stuck between this HTC Sense Vs Time/Mediascape thing, which has gotta be what it comes down to for me... .3 of an inch and a camera which I don't use with any regularity isn't much of an argument for me, and I'd be worried about epic delays of Andriod 2.x for the X10, I guess I'm gonna have to play with both and see which I like best.

Cellfanatic.com just reported that the X10 may be an Orange exclusive in the UK...don't know how true that is as it's still listed on the Vodafone and T-Mobile sites, but if it does turn out to be correct that pretty much makes my choice for me...no chance I'm going to Orange.

edit: I think this may be an erroneous report, it's exclusive to Orange in white, but that's it.

I doubt T-Mobile and Vodafone are going to offer this phone and then say no. But yeah if this happens then there is no chance.

The X10 should be with all carriers in the UK, other then white which is a Orange only exclusive.

However, you can still buy the phone in both colours in a sim free flavour.

I can't wait for mine to arrive all being well it should be anytime next week :D

Next week. I guess I might get my plastic friend out :)

Hmm, do i chose Black or White?

i decided against the x10 because of the old OS version, if they cant bring out a brand new phone with the latest update the updates throughout its life will be even slower, and the interface is another think i like by looking at you tube vids, if it had been 2.1 out of the box with a better UI i think i wouldve chosen it over the desire, the screen is bigger and its got a nice look to it,

ive never owned a sony phone before, i always find sony hardware in general is expensive,

bottom line. not convinced by after sales service here regarding updates/dislike UI

that sucks....i wanted a white one but have a significant hatred of the Orange service

I understand why people complain that x10 is not running 2.x. But in defence, the Rachael UI was probably in development for 1.6 before they had the 2.x SDK. The Rachael UI is fairly complex under the hood and it needs more development to get it running on 2.x.

They probably don't have enough time to change it around with its launch window. So the only logical approach is to release it working on 1.6 and spend more time to perfect it under 2.x then release an update.

I'd rather they take their time and get it working great than rush it out because thats what people want. Take the Satio at launch as an example.

I'm quite happy to wait for a nice 2.x release than a rushed, buggy version.
