Xperia X10 multitouch issue hardware-related?
By Sean Hollister posted Mar 28th 2010 11:59PM
Sony Ericsson's flagship Android smartphone, the Xperia X10, has been plagued by laggy performance since we first laid eyes on it, but that won't always be the case; the company has confirmed repeatedly that upgrades (including a newer Android OS version) will come. However, it now seems that multitouch is not in the cards. "There's no multitouch in X10 – and I also can confirm that it's not only related to [software] but also to [hardware]," said product manager Rikard Skogberg at the official company blog. If true, that means the X10 won't get multitouch even when rooted, much less a Nexus One or Milestone-like level of native, official multitouch support. But remember, Sony Ericsson has fancy UI quirks of its own -- though you may never pinch-to-zoom on an X10, at least you can enjoy reticulating Splines.
This is comes from the Sony Ericsson Product Blog.

However, its Rikard Skogberg comment on the blog seems to have caused some confusion and stated that the device is NOT multi-touch. However, i am waiting for some clarification on what synaptics clearpad digitizer the device uses. Clearpad 1000 devices are single touch, 2000 series are dual touch and the 3000 series can detect up to 10 contact points.
Also its worth noting that the new HTC Devices all use the touchpad 2000 digitizers.
This is a senable post from the SE Blog.
1. HTC Desire (all HTC) and NEXUS ONE don’t have MULTI-TOUCH it’s just ignorance. used is technology Dual-touch and gestures and pinching. (for any Android phone with capacitive screen)
2. The only one that has something like multi-touch is the iPhone, but is some-what mediocre compared to the multi-touch from Hewlett Packard screen for PC.
3. Rikard has not made a big mistake, nor the people at Sony Ericsson withholding information. In this blog there are people who create these types of misunderstandings and disputes and take things people/SE have not done or said. Please don’t be carried away by this kind of controversy.
4. Rikard(SE)said today, had not until the upgrade to 2.1 or Froyo. IT’S Good and the wicked people of this blog started to generate this poorly understood
5. When Rikard speaking of MT refers to the technology of Apple and I don’t think the pinching, gestures or Touch Dual phones running on Android with version 2.1.
6. Google is generating another kind of multi-touch, for phone manufacturers that use Android OS is not obliged to buy Apple’s patents. a good example of this is the pinching and gestures that we see in Nexus One and HTC Desire.
