Sony Ericsson S500 (Review)

Is it possible to flash the S500 with the W580 Walkman style firmware? Or is this not necessary? Because obviously s500 looks that little bit better, but then the w580 has same functionality as my current w810i.

You presumably won't get the pedometer function or the radio since the hardware isn't there but otherwise I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. Take this advise carefully though and wait for other responses, I've never tried.

I've done exactly that on mine and it works great. You dont get radio or pedometer but you get the walkman 2.0 software etc. Ive put back the old themes of the s500i (evercahnge etc) and also some new ones that make it look a bit more funky. Its a bit time consuming getting it to work but it definatly can be done.

how are you finding the phone? any signs of cracked buttons? how long u had it?

mine fine. Its week 32 production so shoulnt have any problems. Had it about a month now.

Brilliant, Well I flashed my w810i to debrand it, so I'm sure I will be able to do the same with the S500, might have to ask for a bit of help though

Dont use radio and pedometer seems a stupid thing to have so doesnt bother me. Thanks for the info.

My 6 key has cracked today. Had it for nearly 2 months now. Its a week 25 so i just hope it get a newer version or a stronger keypad.

CPW have refused to replace my phone which has also now started having screen problems (when I press the up key the screen goes multi-coloured then goes black, requiring a reset). I'm going to have to leave it in to be repaired under insurance which means being without my phone. Really not impressed by CPW insurance.

gah im jinxed. my number 3 and number 9 keys have cracked down the middle. had the phone 33 days of all things. Whats the chances of CPW changing it? Would i need to take the entire package back or just the phone?

The policy is to replace for the first 28 days only apparantly, after that point it is supposed to be sent off for 'repair' but perhaps if you sweettalk them they might be able to waive this. You should only really need take back the phone itself unless you are trying to exchange the whole thing, in which case you obviously need everything.

Got my W580 today, sent a few texts and the 7 has cracked, now I got it from osps with one months free insurance, would I have to send it away to be fixed or could I take it into a local CPW and get it replaced there and then?

Best suggestion is simply to try taking it into the Carphone Warehouse and seeing if they will swap it since they are the parent company.

Mine went in for repair a day ago. My 6 and 8 key were cracked down the middle and it was just very flimsy feeling and the slider was lose. Hopefully getting it back in a day or two. Carephone took my phone in for free which im very surprised at!

Corr well impressed with onestop, sent it off thursday and have received a new one this morning, in proper box with all new headphones cable/charger again

wonder if I can sell some of this hopefully wont break now, just need to get it back into previous settings

My brothers week 33 has now all cracked, is it common for models this late to crack?

He is going to swap over to an equivalent Samsung model I think.

It's not as common as the keys are ment to be made a little bit thicker than previous ones.
