I had the S21U for a short while, and like you I wasn't impressed with the camera one bit.

With my 5ii I usually use the Photo Pro app instead of the Camera app; photos look much better. Not manual mode, just auto mode in Photo Pro results in better photos. I will say I do hope they merge the apps so you have one camera app, with perhaps only manual mode remaining in the photo pro.

Looking at reviews for the third generation of Xperia phones, looks like they are merged together now.

Auto mode is just under "Basic" slider selection in the new photo app and rest of pro modes are there too. Hopefully an update we'll get for second gen phones as I also currently have 5 II.

Great news, I thought I saw something about this, hopefully will come to 2nd gen owners soon.

I think many people find the oversaturated boosted shadow / pulled highlights HDR style way overtuned photos more appealing than the far more natural profile the Xperia's have. Similar story with night mode photos, the Xperia gives a nicely balanced photo which when compared to most other phones looks dark because they massively overexpose and push the shadows up loads to pull detail from the darkness.

It is personal preference, but my preference is an image that doesn't look like its had all the sliders put on +100 in Lightroom.
 
I know i said I wasn't going to get one but I have put an order in for the Xperia 1 III in purple. I just didn't fancy the Fold 3 as I felt it's just too big and chunky for my liking.
I hope I made the right decision as £1199 is not cheap.

I'm waiting for Vodafone to list. Needs to happen in the next couple weeks as I smashed the screen on my current phone and my existing discount with them runs out soon!

I was going to do the same but decided to just purchase the phone outright and downgrade the monthly cost by switching to a sim only plan and not be locked into a 24/36 months contract.

I currently have a 30% discount with them so if I can negotiate that again it'll work out far cheaper to do a full device + service plan with them. For example with the Xperia 1 I was paying something like £38/month for the phone and plan, and the phone came with a "free" PS4 which would have been £200-£250 RRP at the time.

This is quite annoying. Placed an order with O2 yesterday at 3PM to collect in store supposedly on the same day. Didn't hear anything, contacted O2 CS and they say it's been referred to the credit check team.

Despite me putting down the most upfront possible and the device plan being at 3 months for £13.22 and an airtime plan of £19 (excluding 20% discount). Really quite annoying as I was hoping to be able to pick it up right away to test out on a weekend away. If it isn't sorted by Tuesday I'll just cancel and get it from John Lewis when they have stock.
 
So I guess it's properly out now, wouldn't know it without this thread :D

At this point, I'm far more interested in the Pixel 6 now but hopefully turns out to be a good phone for you all.
 
Anyone got their Xperia 1 III yet?
My preorder is scheduled for the 1st week of September.
I think I am having abit of buyers remorse and might cancel and go for the fold 3.
 
However, the phone is currently on delayed delivery of 1 week which will go from the date your order was accepted on the 26th

Finally had an email to say it's ready to collect.


Haven't had much chance to see what's what yet though.
