*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

Just got mine on the £29 11gb p/month Vodafone deal and the Z5 seems excellent.

Got the deal on mobiles.co.uk, Vodafone £26/month, unlimited texts and minutes and 2GB data.

I've moved from large Galaxy Notes -> Z3 -> N6 -> Z3 compact tab. I miss a decent camera and don't take my tablet everywhere so haven't taken any pictures over the last year. Liked the camera button and the looks of the Z3. Did think about another Z3 but never felt comfortable to hold with the magnetic connector on the left. And the glossy back always looked dirty and scratched easily. The Z5 doesn't haven either of those issues.

...however I keep hearing so many mixed things on the camera and battery life. I can accept the battery probably won't be as good as the moto x play I have but its so slow and the camera really isn't great with what feel like a really slow shutter or just really long processing so many photos are blurred. So how is the camera now? Its had an update has it not since launch?

I'm mostly buying this phone for the smaller size and the camera. Most of the reviews were released just after launch and it seems there was an issue with the camera, not sure if it's any better now.

The Z5 won the blind test on GSM Arena. (22 Oct 2015).

A quick update on my first day with the phone.

Surprised how good and accurate the fingerprint sensor is. On most reviews the reviewers didn't like the placement or accuracy of the sensor. I've mapped my fingers so the phone can be unlocked when flat or an desk or held in either hand, there's always a finger or thumb in the correct position to unlock.

I think it was said in this thread to leave the tap to wake off as it's too sensitive. Never had the issue with previous phones but with the Z5 it unlocks when in the front pocket of jeans. Would have been annoying as I like to use tap to wake when phone is on the desk to check notifications, but not so much now as I wear a smart watch.

It doesn't feel as nice in the hand as a Z3 due to the raised edges. But I learnt from the scratches on the back of the Z3 and put the Z5 in a case. I'd like to try it with a dbrand skin and see if the skin is thixk enough so the edges on the back aren't noticed.

Does the included charger have the Qualcomm quick charge feature? I didn't notice any extra markings on it?

Cheers for that. How does it work with photos in pubs/restaurants (general indoors poor lighting situations) etc? With it looking like the s7 isn't water resistant and my general dislike of touchwiz this is potentially back in the running

Check the amperage. Think the standard one is a 1.5A so not QC. I picked up an Aukey one for about £7 or something though.

Any Z5 compact owners able to convince me against buying one? Looking for an upgrade to my Moto G 2013 but phones seem to have supersized.

Would be buying outright as currently on a unl/unl/20GBpm deal with vodafone for essentially free.

Marshmallow has started to rollout from today in Japan of all places! Only the Z5 range so far. I expect it to show up on Xperifirm soon too.

Generally really like my Premium, but have now jumped on the S7 Edge bandwagon......

All in all, the Premium is a very good phone, but a few issues do continue to irk me, such as Bluetooth (dropping connection in car/to Moto360) and occasional lethargy when 'waking'. However, on the plus side, battery life has been very good - first phone I have had that genuinely gets me through any given day - and I do like the audio output (using Shure SE315s). Screen is beautiful, even when not using the 4k resolution.

Still, the ever-upgrading-cycle requires me to sell it on, next week, when the S7 Edge arrives.

Not on my unlocked O2 phone yet unfortunately.

Guy on XDA has done a few first impressions. Contacts and dialer have a few changes, auto brightness fixed, stamina mode has been removed, flip side doze has been introduced, stamina may be coming back in another update.

I'm going to install the Italy version later, it's Europe so should be fine, but even still people swap regions all the time. Just use Xperifirm and build the ftf using flash tool then flash it over.

bit drastic isn't it? just wait a few more hours or maybe another day to get it hassle free...
