*** Sony Xperia Z5 ***

any good deals going for z5 on contract?

kicking myself as about a month ago vodafone were doing unlimited texts/calls and 11gb for £28.50 but its gone back to £36 :(

Don't seem to be any around, even the £26/m for 2GB + free handset with Vodafone, which I got last month, is back to >£30/month.

The 11GB deal was for a green handset, don't think I could have lived with the colour for 2 years :)

the whole situation with android updates is absurd tbh. Android N is in beta and large portions of the current android devices don't even have M yet including these flagships...

There is absolutely no way it makes sense that google releases an OS update and it takes phone manufacturers 4, 5, 6 months to get it on board. wtf? are they re-writing the whole OS?

I seem to remember HTC released a flow diagram of what it took to get a new version ready. It's certainly more than you think, but even so, the delay in getting new versions out is a real problem

Anyone with a compact got it yet? On that link at the top of the page, it shows the customised UK one is out...

Got my Z5 about a week ago upgrading from my trusty 5yr old Galaxy note (original version 1) and it is night and day faster
and obviously far better featured
must add I got my wife a Z3 about 6 months ago which is a great phone with the main fault being it is like holding a slippery fish and it is always falling off tables etc resulting in it getting a cracked screen!!!

thankfully the Z5 is far better with the plastic back - in real world usage I honestly dont see a lot of difference between the two Z3 - Z5
much is said about the camera's on these Sony phones
I am a Photograher for a living and have long been very critical of phone Cameras

so with all the hoo ha about these Sonys thought I would try them out and see what I think (My Galaxy note Camera is garbage and as such never used it)

first impressions of the Menu's swapping between settings is pretty straight forward but I was immediatly very surprised to discover that I have no control over the shutter speed
when I got the camera I had read full manual control is available which sounded great however after searching the menu's and a quick trip to You tube I discover that there is no way of entering my own choice of shutter speed which instantly made me dissapointed
however I battled on and went out snapping with it and having a proper shutter button is a huge help rather than having to tap the screen to take the picture
- must add the steady shot feature is quite superb for helping with camera shake (a huge problem for such small devices)

so after a full afternoons testing with it and a few late night indoor shots I can honestly say the phone on these Sonys are a vast improvement on what I expected especially the night shots and bar the short comings of not having proper full manual control they have made a damned good job with this camera

next step is a longer session using the Video in 4k mode - any recommendations for a super fast card for the 4k video

thankfully the Z5 is far better with the plastic back

The back is actually glass on Z5, my buddy dropped his 2 days after getting it cracking the front and rear glass and killing the digitizer, a decent case is a wise investment! ;)

As for memory card, I am using a Samsung evo+ 128gb that handles 4K just fine, but there are plenty of cards with enough speed out there that will handle the task.

a quick one been playing with the basic editing software on the z5 and cannot seem to cut a clip out of the middle of the segment
as an example if I have a 50 second video clip and the footage between 20-30 seconds is rubbish and needs cutting out
i can trim at the ends of the footage but not in the middle I am sure I am ssing a simple point hear any help please guys

Customized UK ROM had been released for the Z5 E6653.

I'm probably way out of the look here (Still using a Z2) but aren't custom ROMs a big no no on Sony phones, or am I missing something? I seem to remember that the hardware was locked to certain keys that then disabled functions? Like I said, I'm probably way out of the loop here.

It's not a custom ROM. It's an official ROM with the region code tailored to the UK, hence "Customised UK". Just a naming convention.
