'Sorry mate, not allowed in because you aren't with someone'

Well come the cost of living crisis they may reach a different conclusion on eligibility.

SideWinder, on a scale of 0 - 10 (with 0 being "not at all rapey" and 10 being "full on Jimmy Savile") how would you describe your appearance?

I was at the Alchemist a few weeks ago for our Anniversary and despite the place being almost empty (on a Thursday night), the doormen stopped a group of 5 lads and ladies because two of them had what looked like some shopping in Sports Direct branded bags.

They came back 10 minutes later without the big SD logos and they were let in.

Image is everything to these places.

Need photo of OP.

Funnily enough I went to a bar on Friday by myself and there were no questions asked. Never heard of this situation.

I’ve heard of too many guys / big groups being turned away though.

I always thought wine bars were horrible pretentious places and this just about confirms it.

who gives a *** if you really feel you need to swear, you've been here long enough to know that you should fully star out swearing. Consider this a warning *** if you are on your own, and if someone with a shopping bag is not the sort of image they want to portray by having them in their establishment then i hope they are the 1st to hit the skids in the coming months.................. and fingers crossed for the survival of more welcoming establishments who are not so judgy.

(i wont lie.... i could be biased due to having friends who seem drawn to the worst of such places, and I am the one with my tu or George shirt on next to their ralf laurent clothes and the bar full of women half their age with a handbag which cost more than my entire ensemble (but seemingly cant buy their own drink)

Ive not been into GD on this forum for a LONG time, but the first thread i dip back into didnt disappoint.

What a joke though. I understand the principle behind it, but surely thats total discrimination. Im offended by proxy at the idea, even though this will never effect me as i wouldnt chose to go into a bar alone, but still. Utter madness.

Same, I can't stand them, never did when I was younger either, used to get dragged out to clubs by my group, half the time I'd just get fed up a leave early by myself, usually before the last bus/or tube home.

I did have a couple of good night's, one place in London I cannot remember the name, was on 3 floors with different music on each floor, the odd occasion I'd enjoy it and pull an all nighter, but most of the time I'd just go home.

Anyway can't beat Spoons these days, you can take the kids, get a table, hear each other, and with the app they bring the drinks straight to your table, often for less than they cost in Tesco. Can't beat that

I think that type of discrimination is quite common.

I had a night out last month and went to try a new bar/restaurant that had opened. Asked if they had a table for three but they said no despite it appearing a very quiet night (whole town was quiet). I think it was purely down to our age. None of us are stunners but we look respectable, not being loud, etc.

There are lots of reasons to not drink in Spoons but I think the fact people take kids in is probably the best reason not to do so.
