Soton Uni Rebranding

Ive just had all of the breakdancing society hoodies printed on the basis of the Dolphin Logo out of disgust for the new logo...

It's a shame to get rid of a fairly unique logo in preference of yet another minimalist design which could really be any university's if you only had a very brief glance. I also don't really understand why some of you equate the idea of having a dolphin there with it being a polytechnic and/or inferior in some way though...

A dolphin can be added to the new logo very easily and everything would be ok?

edit: since we are sharing logos

this is ours:

Ours has to be the worst, I don't think they have rolled the new one out yet as so many people hate it.

That old Ashton one would have been perfect if only the Y at the end of University wasn't in capitals.

Although I'm not at the Uni itself, I'm across the road at the Arts Institute:

Bournemouth uni changed it's image last year from this:

To this:

The new logo has been nominated for an award in Design Week and it's had recognition from various design journals. It did cost £120k mind you!

THe reply from the SU forum in Soton is that students are negative towards it and by the time it gets officially proposed in Feb, it may not go through. Soton also has a coat of arms which I wouldn't mind them using fully (currently used a little) as it looks smart (as most do).

Solent one looks like a toddler's scribble tbh and genuinely surprised at the number of unis that have been rebranded lately.

I really hate these new-wave abstract logo designs, or whatever you want to call them. Also the fact that companies get paid so much to produce such tripe, it's ridiculous. Perfect example: The 2010 London Olympic games logo.
