Soundbar

If you want to carry 4K HDR content and also want Atmos, then yes you'd need an AV Receiver around the £300-£400 range. You could then get the Q Acoustic 2000 set for around £400 new (Or second hand for allot less). The combination of both would give you a better experience than the Yamaha 2700.

It's not that the 2700 isn't good, it's just so expensive that it bleeds into a bleeds into a price bracket where you could get a better full 5.1 setup.

I just want a simple solution in my room, shame its jumped in price:(

I cant see it staying at £899 for long though.

True if you want something simplistic and not running a 5.1 around your space, the 2700 is fantastic.

Why not go for the YSP 1600 for £279 at Richersounds? Still a great soundbar, less HDMI ports (But does have HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 2.2 like the 2700) and you won't get the same quality of sound that the 2700 delivers but it's still an excellent performer.

John Lewis have had it at the higher price point all the time but you can submit a price match request which I know some people did when they saw RS doing it for £650!
If my quidco goes through I'll have ended up paying nearer £600 for it which is very decent :)

Thanks for confirming, guess I will have to wait as I don't think JL will price match old prices now that everywhere is the same price.

I bought a Sony HT-XT3 soundbase and am quite happy with that.

Can be had for under £300 and I like the look of it better than a soundbar as it looks like part of the TV stand.

I had seen that, and the reviews look great too. I had also looked at the canton DM55, if anyone else had any input it would be great :)

Cheers
I had the Canton DM55 great sounding soundbase but sadly got a fault after 4 months so sent it back there is a software clitch on it, Sounds great though. So we went for the Dali Kubic One far better for music and Films but thats going to set you back £800 but well worth it love it music and films sound awsome :)

Hi guys :) just a bit of an update, I got the Denon x2300. Fantastic!!! I have my LG Oled and Sky Q all hooked up to it now and wow, what a difference :D Thanks again Sprite and all! So happy I have the abolity to add on now for the full surround as and when.

Just in the process of connecting my Hifi equipment up to the AVR. I have the Sony pshx500 turntable and was just wondering wether I would need a pre amp? Also where do I plug the turntable in the AVR?
The cd separate is straight forward as there is designated cd RCA input, but nothing designated for turntable.

Could I use an optical cable for my Cd separate to AVR and then plug my turntable through a pre amp in to the CD RCA?

Assuming it's this one

as you say it's got some AUDIO IN coaxial (RCA) inputs labelled CBL/SAT, DVD, BLURAY, and CD (you found that one already) which implies line level, i.e. not direct from turntable, so strictly speaking you would want a pre-amp, yes. No harm in trying it though assuming your turntable has RCA out, it might just be quiet. (AFAIK, not really into vinyl.)

You can still use the other RCA inputs for the "wrong" thing, e.g. pre-amp into the one labelled "DVD" if that one's free. :)

Regarding optical between CD player and AVR - I would base that decision on which one has the better DAC. If your CD player is very good, you want analogue out from it. If the AVR is better, use the optical. "Better" is usually open to debate!

I've also owned a soundbase before - Denon DHT-T110. They're great but really born out of the fact that initially soundbars were small and lacked base, this isn't such of an issue anymore especially with wireless subwoofers with soundbars. Most places are stopping their manufacture now.

If you're severely restricted by space, so placing a soundbase under your TV is required and also sub placement is difficult. Then it's a good call. Otherwise i think there are is far more variety on price and performance with soundbars.

Great stuff mate, glad you're pleased with your purchase. I also love mine, it's a top quality AVR. Now comes the fun of deciding how you'll expand on that setup for a proper 5.1, nothing compares to the first time you put a decent setup in your living room. You'll be smiling from ear to ear for months afterwards. Even now some films and their surround quality gives me chills in certain scenes.

That's the one mate :) yeah my turntable has RCA outs. It also has a ground cable, but the AVR doesn't seem to have a grounding point (also another reason to get a pre amp - due to them having a grounding point)

Can anyone recommend a decen pre amp? I'd been looking at the project phono box mk2?

Also...how do you go about setting your fire sticks up to an AVR? :S

Sprite....I can't imagine how good yours sounds mate, I'm over the moon just running it through the two Q acoustics 3050s!! Lol :D
Just need to find some good movies now to do the tv and AVR justice.

Ah great much appreciated :) nice and simple. I was just a bit worried about plugging it in anywhere as I'd read quite a few people had problems connecting it to an avr and getting no connection.

Do you use a universal remote of any kind mate? Having 3 controls is a nightmare! Sky Q, avr, tv.
I could just use the Sky Q and the avr remote tbh but it would be nice to have one that functions well to control all easily.

Harmony Ultimate or Harmony Elite with the Hub are your main options, as the Fire Stick doesn't have an IR. Older Harmony remotee need an IR.

For Amazon / Netflix you're better off using your TVs internal apps, as the Fire Stick and Fire TV while supporting 4K on latest versions don't support HDR. Even though I have an Amazon Fire TV 4K, I don't use it anymore for that reason. I use the inbuilt apps on my Samsung 55" KS7000.

Ordered the harmony elite :)

Just a quick Q if I may, how come when I try to use my tv apps such as Amazon etc I get no sound through the avr? Only sound I get is from my sky Q box...

Do I also need a hdmi from the tv to one of the avr media hdmi inputs? Like I do with the sky Q...

Exactly - there's no way for sound to get from the TV to the receiver. You could use another HDMI cable if your TV has HDMI out, but it probably doesn't.

You should be able to use optical out of the TV to the receiver though. Optical 1 is called TV AUDIO which sounds perfect.

TV only has one hdmi ARC.
The guy in richer sounds said there was a way to do it via settings? Both tv and avr.
Am I best off just going down the optical route for normal tv output?

Oh yes sorry, if you have the TV connected to the HDMI OUT socket labelled MONITOR 1 ARC it should work as you want it to. You'll need to check the manual for settings.
