Soundbar

At the moment the LGs hdmi is going from the HDMI ARC to the avr monitor 1... and the hdmi from the sky Q is in the cbl/sat hdmi in the avr.
Sky sound is great but no sound through the avr on the tv apps?
The optical route sounds easy? I think I'm doing things wrong? :( sprite advised me not to use ARC, but I think that's exactly what it's doing...

You can use ARC mate, I do for my TV apps. It's just sometimes a bit unreliable, hasn't been for me yet but some have handshake issues.

You should have some settings to send the sound via ARC on your TV, when you've got that the AVR receiver should recognise it. Set it to TV sound on the AVR when you do.

Believe on LG TVs you have to enable Simplink and then select HDMI ARC.... on my Samsung KS700" it detected my AV Receiver and asked me if I wanted to use ARC for TV apps.

Oh heck, never knew this would be so complicated haha. Really appreciate everyone's patience in helping me.

I have a few things connected up now (sky Q, firestick, and CD player)
My sky Q has a tendency to have a bit of white static on a black screen? It's noticble say when changing channels, I have decent hdmi cables? Urgh :(

The lgs manual is as good as a chocolate fire guard.

Haha don't worry, it's the first time I've used ARC. Previously I've always had Fire TV or HTPC run through my AVR, need the TV apps for HDR though until Amazon release a box that supports it.

Not sure, I don't get it on my Sky HD... Could be that you've got CEC enabled on the Sky box, it's called HDMI control in the settings. CEC can cause issues sometimes. I always disable it, mainly as CEC is a total bag of spanners. Otherwise not sure. Try another HDMI cable? Alternative look at Sky forums, I know SkyQ still has some bugs being worked through.

Ahhh excellent mate!! That has sorted it :D brilliant!!

I only have one more issue for this evening...I have found out that my cd separate and turntable both only work in the CD analog outputs on the avr.

I can have the turntable working fine through the CD RCA, but then when I try to put my CD RCA connection in to say 'dvd' or blue ray RCA outlets, there's nothing, no sound :/

Would optical work for my CD to avr? If so how do I select it on the remote to be able to switch over from satellite to Cd...

Haha really turning off CEC fixed it? What a guess! Or was that the Simplink for ARC?

Mmmm not sure on CD etc, basically providing you have an output that goes into the AVR you can pass the sound through it. Just need to ensure you've got the correct input selected on the AVR.

I swapped the hdmi cables around and turned cec off and all is good now :D

Yeah it's weird, maybe it's just me? I can have the turntable or cd separate plugged in via the red and white audio cables to the rca labelled CD and either work fine.

Now when I try plugging the red and white audio cable in to either DVD or blue ray and select the source on the avr, both DVD and blue ray come on tv saying hdmi as opposed the the cd input saying anolog...

Managed to sort it :D I went in to the denons settings and assigned the DVD to analog rather than hdmi. All working now :D

Over the moon.

Sprite, you should do this as a job mate!

Ah I get what you're doing.

Just to summarise....

You've got a separate CD player and super are turntable both with red/white. If either one is connected to CD input, works fine. What you'd like to do I assume though is have the separate CD plugged into CD and then use one of the spare white/red inputs which are for Bluray or DVD for your turntable? Assume your turn table has a pre amp already?

Not knowing enough about turn tables etc, I wouldn't know... Best bet is to ask on AVForums. You'll likely to get an answer on there pretty quick.

Grand stuff! Rocking and rolling!

I'd love to run my own home audio store, think I'm too far into my career as a Delivery Manager in software development to make a move. Wife and kids are to expensive!

Id get some Q Acoustics rears and centre second hand if I were you, basically fit out a 5.1 set :). Always people sellling second hand Q Acoustic bookshelf speakers.

I'll check them out now!! :D cheers mate! It's even more of a joy to use having now set up the harmony remote. I love how everything turns on and off simultaneously.

I have a Cambridge x301 sub coming tomorrow so looking forward to the weekend to get some tv time with some films :)

Best get saving again now :(

Hi guys

Received my x301 subwoofer today. But I don't seem to be eating any bass out of it? Am I doing something wrong?

I have it powered on and a sub lead from the correct input on the sub going to the subwoofer input on the avr....

But nothing...

Next you'll want to fiddle about with the crossover and levels for the sub and speakers. :p Too much to explain in a forum post I'm afraid.
