Space Trader MMO

eve online is good, it has a very steep learning curve but once you have cracked the basics and get in with a friendly corp it can be very good. I don't play it anymore as I have a wife and two kids and just do not have the time to put in.

You have to be very careful as this game as it can be seriously addictive, Sometimes I want to go back to it but the reality is that I dare not.

For offline x3 is good but as above its seriously addictive.

Did try Eve, couldnt get into it. The third person view, lack of flight control and those kinda things threw me right off although I did see why it could be really addictive, just not my cup of tea. The search goes on :)

I played Eve for a few months and honestly wasn't impressed. I'm the opposite of one of the above posters, it doesn't get more deep as time goes on, I find it got more shallow. Once I figured out what it was all about, theres not really a lot to do. PvP seems to be the main aspect of the game, but even that is being squished by the new additions CCP are bringing to the game, specifically Titans and their 'Red Button o'Doom'.

Mission running is boring as hell - fly to spot A, kill all ships, fly to spot A2, kill all ships, go home. Mining - I mean. Mining? Is there anyone that actually enjoys mining? Stop at a rock, turn on mining turret, fall asleep until your cargo is full. Pirate Killing is pretty much the same as mission running, except without the mission part. And as for PvP - the PvP I've been involved in had a small group flying across the galaxy, blowing up lone pilots and running as soon as an equal or larger group appeared. Very exciting. Not. Its like Pirate Killing, except you have to track the pirates and you probably only get one at a time. Every hour.

Nah, didn't see the appeal. I wanted to keep playing, I really did, cos I figured fleet battles have got to be the biggest part of the game and the most fun.. but then I kept thinking of Titans, and how theres going to be a lot more by the time I get to the point where I can actually be involved in fleet combat. So.. not really much point getting excited there.

At the end, I paid for a months subscription and spent maybe an hour online, which involved the simple task of switching skill training. I'm like, "Why am I paying to watch a skill timer go down? I can buy a stopwatch for less."

Let's hope David Braben finishes Elite IV this decade...

TBH I'm not fussed about the MMO element as I prefer SP standalone gameplay. X3 and Freelancer are okay but particularly the latter you are always getting called away to service the main storyline. Frontier Elite II was probably the best example of a (non-MMO) space trading game IMHO, enough to do and random combat to keep you on your toes but no absolute storyline to follow. The problem with story based games - whether it's X3 or a GTA, is that once you finish the main plot there's little incentive to carry on doing the side stuff.

“Mission running is boring as hell - fly to spot A, kill all ships, fly to spot A2, kill all ships, go home.“
Sounds like you fall into the trap of ruining normal missions not the fun ones. Expeditions, exploring, cosmos, hacking and archaeology are where the fun PvE is. Not agent missions.

EDIT: Starforce 2 looks good. Out on the 25th.

And those graphics are borderline now, in 2 years time they'll be seriously outdated...

If you check the site, the first playable release is set for end 2007/ beginning 2008.
