I played Eve for a few months and honestly wasn't impressed. I'm the opposite of one of the above posters, it doesn't get more deep as time goes on, I find it got more shallow. Once I figured out what it was all about, theres not really a lot to do. PvP seems to be the main aspect of the game, but even that is being squished by the new additions CCP are bringing to the game, specifically Titans and their 'Red Button o'Doom'.
Mission running is boring as hell - fly to spot A, kill all ships, fly to spot A2, kill all ships, go home. Mining - I mean. Mining? Is there anyone that actually enjoys mining? Stop at a rock, turn on mining turret, fall asleep until your cargo is full. Pirate Killing is pretty much the same as mission running, except without the mission part. And as for PvP - the PvP I've been involved in had a small group flying across the galaxy, blowing up lone pilots and running as soon as an equal or larger group appeared. Very exciting. Not. Its like Pirate Killing, except you have to track the pirates and you probably only get one at a time. Every hour.
Nah, didn't see the appeal. I wanted to keep playing, I really did, cos I figured fleet battles have got to be the biggest part of the game and the most fun.. but then I kept thinking of Titans, and how theres going to be a lot more by the time I get to the point where I can actually be involved in fleet combat. So.. not really much point getting excited there.
At the end, I paid for a months subscription and spent maybe an hour online, which involved the simple task of switching skill training. I'm like, "Why am I paying to watch a skill timer go down? I can buy a stopwatch for less."
