Spain Train Crash

The line in question isn't fitted with ERTMS though and I don't think it has TPWS either :(

I'm not so sure you know. Check out this video of that section of line taken at the correct speed

Linky

It's in Spanish but there are beacons in the four foot before the curve. Granted, they are too close to the curve to offer any real benefit, but there is no reason at all why beacons could not have been fitted earlier. I'd certainly be looking at why the train was allowed to hit a curve at over double the speed limit. It's clearly human error that contributed but if I was the regulator over there I'd be asking some very serious questions. There is no reason in this day and age to not have safety systems in place to prevent things like this happening.

RIP to the ones who lost their lives in this tragic train accident but he was coming at some speed around that corner :/...i expect that he will be charged with manslaughter or some other charge and possibly serve some prison time.

Here uk has accident when train went too fast on curve in Morpeth included sleeper... have look on wikipedia.. i remember one was old sleeper that went off the track when it went overspeed curve bend..

You'll be ok mate. No train in the UK travels at those kinds of speeds.

Lol ain't that the truth, average train speeds are shocking on some lines, it doesn't help that our train system is operated as if it were a bus service with a stupid number of stops where only a couple of people disembark, it's often faster to drive long distances, certainly cheaper!

Why all new trains aren't computer controlled is beyond me.

If they can have safe driverless cars, and autopilot for planes, how hard can it be to automate something travelling on a track? If I remember the news correctly it said that speed was controlled automatically on the high speed sections, but not on the slower ones.

Such madness has cost lives today, RIP.

Err....? Are you talking about the video in the link I posted or another one? Cause the video on the Sky News page is actually from a security camera, not a mobile phone.

no that was the security camera one, the video on the side of that
