Spamtastic - Who do you get the most junk mail from?

Emails from Amazon with buying suggestions of things you've just bought from Amazon!

This doesn't work for actual spam emails - clicking that link is a test to see if your account is still active so they can sell your email address some more.

I have not had that type of email since the mid 90's when I first got email and dial up internet access.

I get random religious spam to my gmail account addressed to someone called Mary - I think that she must have a similar email address to me. They don't seem to be the normal spam emails.

I also get lots one ones about someone called Anamul logging in to my Facebook account. Impressive considering I don't have a Facebook account.

Vaguely on topic, but it's been amusing me a fair bit lately...

Our work email system has clearly not been set up with the right kinds of filters, because we currently get about 20-30 emails a day with the subjects such as "I have wet pussy for you" and "I need **** inside me" and variations on a theme. Not even subtle or anything, some of them are hilariously gross.

And our receptionists can't just auto-junk them all, because occasionally our folder will also grab some actual customer emails. So they have to actually read through all the titles.

But work won't find the time/effort to fix the issue, and I have my own work to do, so it's just an endless flow of horny badly-spelled spam.

Yes but that's not the question is it?

So you don't understand what you proposed?

It's not good advice to click any link in a spam email is it potentially puts a user at risk of malware , phishing exploits or digital fingerprinting for further zero day exploits...

It also lets the spam bot know that the email box is active and worth spamming.

You didn't say unsolicited did you?

and about the same again from a facebook spammer even though i don't use facebook.

I'm sure i've not thought this topic through properly when references to Enlargement devices start being posted. :)

Yes i did and so have other users in a 4 page thread and since when is a generalized topic of discussion in the General Discussion section singularly and pedantically about the first post only?

My work email is worse than my personal emails. Blocking domains seems to have no effect. Most of it is people flogging conferences and research reports with the odd recruiter touting for business thrown in.

Been years since any retired Nigerian generals needed my help.
Yeah. I also used to get them phoning up the switchboard and sometimes getting put through to me, a common one seemed to be wanting to send me a free report on whatever subject they thought was somehow related to my job and then being astounded that I would turn down such an opportunity.

I get a lot of unwanted emails on my personal account but that's mostly due to me being lazy opting out rather than genuine spam, every now and then I do a blitz.

OK not quite spam but do these companies seriously think that people will re-read pages of small print every few months to play the game of spot the difference?

No, but they have to carpet bomb inboxes for regulatory reasons most likely.
