If the defender misses or doesn't make the clearance it goes through to Fabregas who is offside. With the rule as it is there is an actual incentive for defenders not to defend, it's nuts.

Liverpool's first goal vs Arsenal at the start of the season had an offside decision along these lines involved in it. After the game Graham Poll claimed that officials have been instructed to only give an attacker offside in that situation if he plays the ball.

Agree with One More Solo though, by forcing the defender to make the interception/clearance they've clearly interfered with play (as the defender can't just leave it and hope the lino raises his flag).

I know he scored but Benzema is just terrible, he makes Hernandez look like Messi when it comes to off the ball contribution. Would much rather have seen Higuain up top from the start.
