Spanish Football 2011-2012

Didn't think Madrid could keep up that tempo throughout the game, they were everywhere in the first half. Put in a little bet on a Barca handicap -1 at half time. :D

Iniesta is imo the closest player in the world to Messi. He is just class.

Ronaldo shown up once again in a game of significance. How people put him anywhere near Messi I don't know.

Agee on both points .. ish.

Re: Iniesta, its a shame he can't really finish because he really is Messi-esque in every other way.

So, MOTM guys? only one choice for me, the guy previously mentioned above

Big games are becoming a real issue for Ronaldo. He's brilliant at steamrollering the little sides but when it comes to these tight clashes he seems to miss the few chances he gets. It's bizarre for someone so confident to have such a mental block in these matches, there's just no way he would have missed the chances he had tonight if they had come up vs Getafe or someone.

Iniesta had a super human second half. And if you've ever wondered why Messi keeps winning the Ballon D'or over Ronaldo, look no further than the Classico.

The only reason people put Ronaldo near Messi must be through looking at stats where Ronaldo has built up 90% of his goals against bottom half teams. Watching them on the same pitch and bar the Copa Del Rey he has never done anything. Whereas you see Messi run from pretty much halfway line and carve the RM team apart and score in the semi of a CL game.

MOTM for me is Iniesta.

But overall their stats are close, so surely he really is ripping teams apart.

And I'm sure that a league is won throughout a season, and not over 2 matches against Barcelona. Messi is a better player, but that doesn't mean Ronaldo can't be compared to him.

Tight margins for sure, but at the end of the day Messi's able to do something Ronaldo's never been able to - consistently contribute in the biggest games.

Iniesta spent the entire second half running at a crap defence and being unable to provide a ball, I think the biggest downfall of Barca in terms of losing possession in the first half was both Iniesta and Messi holding on to the ball a second to long just about every single time. When Barca are at their best they rarely dribble and mostly pass, one touch stuff, Barca had trouble in the first half, and lately when they hold on to the ball and slow it down, take 3-4 touches, doing that in defence and they were under pressure. Real didn't do anything special and left SO much room in midfield and defence but Barca just wouldn't get the ball forwards fast enough, for no apparent reason.

The second half Barca spent FAR more time playing one touch stuff and keeping it away from Real and then the game became incredibly one sided.

Not even close, firstly Messi gets the majority of his goals against the same teams Ronaldo does, secondly going into el Classico as the most expensive player of all time and a MUCH worse team with every single game Ronaldo being the guy everyone relies on, there was huge pressure on Ronaldo today, something Messi hasn't ever had for Barca as if he plays badly the rest of the team plays well, if Ronaldo plays badly, his team lose.

Likewise the only time a team truly looks to Messi all game long every game, would be Argentina, where Messi disappears just as often. Ronaldo has done plenty, don't forget also that Puyol is one of the best defenders in the world and Alves has improved quite a lot in the past year, the focus of Barca's defence was with containing Ronaldo in mind.

Diarra's job was to contain Messi and he won the ball off him time and time and time again in the first half, Diarra finally got his yellow card when Xabi stayed forward, made a weak ass attempt to step into Iniesta and left a very very strong counter attack moving towards a very "meh" defence, Diarra came across, took the card and stopped the attack, from Diarra getting a yellow(and shortly going off) there was nothing holding Barca back in the slightest.

Overall, frankly a bit disgusted with Sanchez's antics, can't quite decide if Marcelo meant to catch Alves with his elbow, Ramos probably should have gone for a nasty nasty tackle, Xabi was rubbish, the few times he got near Messi he just kicked out at him, his passing was poor, defensively offered nothing at all, constantly caught out, with no Diarra on the pitch there wasn't ANY cover in front of the back four. Diarra probably MOTM because he contained Messi/Xavi incredibly well till he went off. Pepe probably did enough stupid tackles to get sent off but nothing as bad as usual.

I don't think Real were particularly good in the first half, their goal came from Valdes being epically awful in that game. They threatened but had very few truly good chances to score, Barca were just playing to slow and cautiously in the first half, grew into the game and from 30mins into the game there was only ever one winner.

haha goal.com has Ronaldo as fans flop of the match :D

Yup, except it was clear as day that Valdes was the worst player on the pitch, woeful performance, no idea why he was flat out refusing to kick the ball, put his team under pressure for no reason constantly throughout the first half, less so in the second, and gifted Real their goal.

ronaldo is ****. RVP is a better player then ronaldo and Messi is just the best.

Why is RVP better? his a better team player and his work ethic is better too. Messi is a a cut above the rest though.

I did not watch the game as was watching a movie but saw 1st goald from RM. seems like barcelona switched a gear or two on and destroyed RM. dont think anyone can beat Barcelona's type of football

Messi just has a really good big game mentality and has masses of self-belief; after all, he has really never endured a patch of bad form and how many players can say that? This must in large part be due to Barcelona's own winning mentality, they never really looked rattled and just played themselves back into the game.

Real, by contrast, **** themselves as soon as Sanchez scored and their game plan went out the window. That can't help any of their players.

Barcelona only play one way. similar to what Wengers boys try to do. They dont liek anyone dictate how they play etc.

That RM squad has too many eago's. Thats there problem and Morinho can never match barcelona as his tactics just dont work. only way to beta barcelona is to play like them.

If Wenger was manager of that RM team, i reckon RM would have won.

Those RM players are getting wasted with the kind of tactics they play. That RM team is begging to play one touch football and Morinho aint the man to do it.

jonney do you actually read what you post before you do?
