Iniesta had a super human second half. And if you've ever wondered why Messi keeps winning the Ballon D'or over Ronaldo, look no further than the Classico.
Iniesta spent the entire second half running at a crap defence and being unable to provide a ball, I think the biggest downfall of Barca in terms of losing possession in the first half was both Iniesta and Messi holding on to the ball a second to long just about every single time. When Barca are at their best they rarely dribble and mostly pass, one touch stuff, Barca had trouble in the first half, and lately when they hold on to the ball and slow it down, take 3-4 touches, doing that in defence and they were under pressure. Real didn't do anything special and left SO much room in midfield and defence but Barca just wouldn't get the ball forwards fast enough, for no apparent reason.
The second half Barca spent FAR more time playing one touch stuff and keeping it away from Real and then the game became incredibly one sided.
The only reason people put Ronaldo near Messi must be through looking at stats where Ronaldo has built up 90% of his goals against bottom half teams. Watching them on the same pitch and bar the Copa Del Rey he has never done anything. Whereas you see Messi run from pretty much halfway line and carve the RM team apart and score in the semi of a CL game.
MOTM for me is Iniesta.
Not even close, firstly Messi gets the majority of his goals against the same teams Ronaldo does, secondly going into el Classico as the most expensive player of all time and a MUCH worse team with every single game Ronaldo being the guy everyone relies on, there was huge pressure on Ronaldo today, something Messi hasn't ever had for Barca as if he plays badly the rest of the team plays well, if Ronaldo plays badly, his team lose.
Likewise the only time a team truly looks to Messi all game long every game, would be Argentina, where Messi disappears just as often. Ronaldo has done plenty, don't forget also that Puyol is one of the best defenders in the world and Alves has improved quite a lot in the past year, the focus of Barca's defence was with containing Ronaldo in mind.
Diarra's job was to contain Messi and he won the ball off him time and time and time again in the first half, Diarra finally got his yellow card when Xabi stayed forward, made a weak ass attempt to step into Iniesta and left a very very strong counter attack moving towards a very "meh" defence, Diarra came across, took the card and stopped the attack, from Diarra getting a yellow(and shortly going off) there was nothing holding Barca back in the slightest.
Overall, frankly a bit disgusted with Sanchez's antics, can't quite decide if Marcelo meant to catch Alves with his elbow, Ramos probably should have gone for a nasty nasty tackle, Xabi was rubbish, the few times he got near Messi he just kicked out at him, his passing was poor, defensively offered nothing at all, constantly caught out, with no Diarra on the pitch there wasn't ANY cover in front of the back four. Diarra probably MOTM because he contained Messi/Xavi incredibly well till he went off. Pepe probably did enough stupid tackles to get sent off but nothing as bad as usual.
I don't think Real were particularly good in the first half, their goal came from Valdes being epically awful in that game. They threatened but had very few truly good chances to score, Barca were just playing to slow and cautiously in the first half, grew into the game and from 30mins into the game there was only ever one winner.
