Spanish Grand Prix 2011, Circuit de Catalunya- Race 5/19

Didn't stop Vettel setting a time, did it?
RB didnt waste a set og softs in Q1 either did they smart arse and even with no kers RB is the fastest car on the grid...

where as MSC would have gone out with no kers and achieved what? he can save tyres and still start with only 2 cars between him and his team mate.

or go out because u say so and maybe start 1-2 places higher and waste a set of tyres.. u do realise they cant just magic new sets of tyres?

What is the difference on the dirty side, is it small or big, i mean if Vettel has no KERS and dirty side, Hamilton will have him with Button following closely
According to Button, it's a nice advantage (being on the clean side)
Any word why the Renault caught fire?
They said it was an exhaust problem.

It stinks of a problem with their off throttle exhaust downforce trickery, that the FIA have said they want banned... Or Sutil has been drinking again and let the car have it this time.

You hoping the two RBRs take each other out and JB get's the jump on Alonso?

As much as I'd love that result, I can't see it happening.

Its not done and dusted after the first corner, there are a number of laps after that (considering how close the McLaren and Ferrari are in quali and this is where McLaren are usually weaker, there is a good chance JB can get a podium imo - esp if Vettel has no KERS for the race.

Also remember Alonso doesnt have any fresh soft tyres for the race, which could give JB a number of decent laps jump on him (if he doesnt come out in traffic and McLaren dont foul up the stop)

Not sure Hamilton's lock up / flat spot will lead to anything itself, however if he can be pushed into a mistake early.....that could exaggerate the situation

Qualifying - Webber bests Vettel to take Barcelona pole
Mark Webber aced Red Bull team mate Sebastian Vettel for the first time in a 2011 qualifying session, to take his first pole position of the season in Spain on Saturday. Vettel’s sole run in Q3 - done without KERS - yielded him a fastest-of-the-weekend 1m 21.181s, undercutting the 1m 21.961s and 1m 21.996s laps of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, but then Webber slipped in his masterpiece - with KERS - to take the top slot with 1m 20.981s.

Spanish Grand Prix - Top three drivers press conference
Red Bull's Mark Webber hopes to replicate last season's Spanish Grand Prix when he won the race from pole, while Lewis Hamilton, starting third on the grid, says it will be difficult for McLaren to challenge the Red Bulls.

By not using KERS, Vettel was hindered, but RBR's race pace isn't as dominant as their qualifying pace. Also if Vettel doesn't lead on the first lap...his chances of winning are extremely small (see earlier in this thread, regarding Vettel's ability to win when not leading on lap1).

Of course, if Vettel is leading on lap1...barring car malfunction, I can't see anyone other than Vettel winning and an RBR 1-2.

Not long to go now chaps.

Your constant bickering towards Vettel on only leading from the start [and his ability to win from there][ is funny, your "time trialling" quotes are hilarious, he is at the top of his game, he doesnt need to be compared to drivers that have won from 5th or 6th, he doesnt qualify 5th or 6th so he doesnt need to. Wait until we are a mid pack car again and then comment, your posts, no matter how well written are made to sound like fact when in reality are the words of a spectator with no ******* clue as to what goes on. Enjoy the racing and critisize when he/we make mistakes.

cs nuts, i couldnt bother you to quickly have a look back on my thread about diffusers could i, asked a couple of questions and wanted to know your opinion.

also since you guys helped a guy in time attack and thats something im thinking of entering i was thinking about contacting another f1 team to see if they fancy helping(can be sort of a grass routes battle between f1 teams this way with it being about fun, not budget)

since im driving a mazda ill need to find a team that has no proper assosiation with a engine manufacturer, i was thinking williams(but the jag thing might be bad) or force india.

How did they approach you guys, just sent an email asking for help?

Eh? Vettel has only ever won a single race when not leading on lap1. How is that not a fact? I know you don't like reading that, as Vettel drives for your team, but that is no reason to use expletives.

Go chill out man.

Well one of the main things is, the Red Bull was really mostly dominant last season, I honestly can't be arsed, way to late, to work it out but one seasons results, when in general they had a great car in qualifying, and he got a load of poles. If/when he didn't get a pole it was more likely because the car had a problem that weekend than anything else.

He's also more aggressive than others in getting to the front which caused accidents, same with Hamilton and ALonso a little aswell. THat style has won all three drivers titles so I wouldn't say its a bad thing.

I don't think theres a driver on the grid who wouldn't find it easier to win from the front.

Its really a season so far he's been judged on, well 18 months when he's had a car he can consistantly put at the front, and then go on and grab a win aswell.

If he'd had less poles, and had less wins, so his wins from further back ratio was increased, would that make him a better driver? No.

Vettel, Hamilton and to a smaller extent Alonso are interesting to see trying to catch people, because they'll put in aggressive moves and they'll screw up more often than your Button's who won't do the same.

Personally Vettel + crazy crashes into Webber and Button = far more interesting that Vettel who just passed both guys and both races ended up completely boring with Vettel cruising to a win.

I found the amount of races he didn't win from pole last year far more interesting than the stat for not winning from further back. The cars fast and he's on pole you can't really moan about lack of wins from 6th. How many poles though did he fail to convert to the point that Jordan even joked with him to not bother trying to get pole.
