Spanish Grand Prix 2011, Circuit de Catalunya- Race 5/19

I fully expect the renaults to do well (top 6, qually) as they have good grip and traction.

Does annoy me that the teams bring such a radical wing setup to Monaco, and essentially throw it away afterwards. Thought they weren't allowed to run a specialist setup for a single purpose of one gp (or something to that effect)?

Technically they are not supposed to, but traditionally they always do, same for Monza, as its just impractical not too really. I think its why they have tried to copy the tracks it happens at (valencia) even if it makes them look silly

I was very impressed with Button hanging it round the outside of webber into the first corner. That took some guts, and well done to both for allowing just enough room. I hope though that we don't see JB just cruise around doing 1 stop less than everyone else the rest of the year mearly picking up solid points finishes, it will only strengthen the "number 2 driver" opinion that most already have of him.
Not really looking forward to monaco tbh, never enjoyed a race there since mansell v senna. It is however the 1 track that makes you cringe everytime you watch onboard stuff, especially quali laps, just sooo scary with those walls.

No corrolation at all on yesterday's events compared to the rest of the season.

JB would have been up there with LH and SV if it hadnt been for the crummy start (he was already 20+ behind after a few laps yesterday, yet finished "only" 35s behind at the end, even with all the additional traffic he had to deal with)

Dont forget JB also got two fastest laps during the race (at that time) so he was certainly pushing as much as possible

Yes the start ruined his race, but he still did very well indeed (in fact to one degree or another a lot of people had issues at the start, JB just had the "luck" to be the worst off and most noticable

Hopefully this will stop people constantly referring back to last season and the fact that he can't win if he isn't leading.

technically he hasnt had to fight through a field after a bad quali or bad start, by the first corner he was 2nd and following alonso round.

his first stop red bull messed up with the timing and put him in traffic, 2 cars. with the car he had and the tyre difference he was going to get by no problem. one of them was button and he probably new its not worth fighting as he needed his tyres to last as long as possible.

it was impressive how quickly he delt with both of them but it doesnt mean he can now fight through the field from anywere and still do well.

when he pulls something like webber did then maybe it can be accepted :p

I agree - I was one of them. I assumed Vettel would look for the easy pass, or wait until somebody pitted, or hang around and then get fed up and try some move that only succeeded because the other driver was gracious. I didn't expect him to pass two excellent drivers so quickly after coming out. The tyres obviously helped, but it showed that Vettel can keep his head and make the moves when necessary. He was my driver of the day, and it really really pains me to say that.

+1

Vettel impressed yesterday.

I'm still surprised at McLaren's tactics with Lewis, surely they'd have been better to stick with leaving Lewis out for longer on the hards and then giving him a set of fresh softs for the final 10 laps?

McLaren repeatedly get the strategy wrong. In the middle of the race Lewis stuck in some laps on old softs that were as fast as Vettel on fresh softs. For about 3 or 4 laps he was holding him firm. But then they droped all that advantage by sticking him on new hards right after Vettel. They should have done what they did before. Leave him out, tell him to go mental, then with 12 laps left pit him for some scrubbed softs and tell him to go get him!

I think the problem was the teams worked out that 4 sets of softs and a set of hards wasn't enough to get them through the race.

Should be fun with the red super soft at Monaco! :D

Pit.. get to the tunnel.. "My tires.. they are going!" haha

2010 british GP, Vettel got a puncture on the opening lap, was dead last, and fought through to 7th. And that was on the old tyres.
