Spanish Grand Prix 2012, Catalunya - Race 5/20

So it seems they may run the new 'inbetween' option, which was photographed at the test and the bit they were trying today was to check the drivers visibility, should they fully go towards the stepped nose layout.

Good chat at the moment about McLaren's pit stop gear being primitive compared to their competitors.

They really need to get that retained wheel nut system that Ferrari and Mercedes have.

Its different to that. There is now a bulge along almost where the drivers eye line is. Only currently on Lewis's car.

That was just something being tested to do with drivers vision for next years car, it's not part of the new nose.

Yeah, I gathered that as well, see my second post :)

I think everyone is getting a bit premature heralding the return of Ferrari — it's one practice session from one grand prix — let's not get carried away. :p

The new McLaren nose is uglier than most of the other teams'.

Mercedes have the best one imo. It's nice and flat and thin. The McLaren one is very fat and reminds me of a fish.

It is not uglier than the other teams step noses imo.

This. Its only FP1.;)

They really need to get that retained wheel nut system that Ferrari and Mercedes have.

Merc and Ferrari have learnt from their other racing outings. McLaren are only recently racing again in areas other than F1 (GT3 with the 12C). Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes.

Did I hear or read somewhere that the McLaren wheel nut turns 12 times to be tight, while the Ferrari one only turns 3 times? Something like that.
