Isnt that the gearbox on the Mclaren?

No, pretty sure that's a cam cover and cylinder head visible, with a bit of block showing at the bottom. They're such a short stroke (~40mm) these engines, so the block is pretty small. Remember there's effectively 2x 1.2 litre I4 engines

But...eh!?! Thats crazy. Wheres the gearbox then? Surely the cars not that much longer then the end of that block?

McLaren - that's the engine block to the left, LOOK HOW SMALL IT IS! Obviously the v8s are smaller than the v10s, but that's miniscule! It really demonstrates how gigantic the fuel tanks are now with the stupid no refuelling rule

sorryy cant get to the site here - hmm I didnt think the fuel cell were rigid in f1? Thought they wee more baloon like

(not disputing how much space has to be allowed for the fuel cell at its fullest though)

Talking of gearboxes, next year, actually it might be 14, anyway, all the mounting points that join them to the engines are to be universal. So the short of it, teams lower down the grid will be able to buy the separate parts from anyone, Mercedes engine, Redbull gearbox? perfect package

Rumours are that McLaren also have a new wheel nut design this weekend. Hopefully it will help sort out their painful pitstops...

Spy shot...

2014 I expect, to go with the new engine and gearbox regulations. Sounds like a good idea. With the fixed ratios gearboxes will be almost sealed units you can buy off the shelf.
