Spanish Grand Prix 2012, Catalunya - Race 5/20

According to what rule?

Accoribg to the rule which says under practice sessions you have to get back to the pits under your own power and provide a 1litre sample of fuel. Unless for a technical reason (break down/crash) there was no technical problem so mclaren broke the rules. Qaulifying is techniqualy a practice session.

Would have been a good race if the FIA had n't done their best to cripple the chances of the favorite winning just to try and get a spanish winner on home soil.

A few days late and simply a beyond silly post. FIA (for once) are actually implementing their own rules, fairly, even consistently with previous incidents.

As pointed out yesterday/this morning Buemi got kicked out of quali in Germany last year for fuel irregularities and this is the same thing (it being irregular that Hamilton didn't have enough to do an in lap and take a sample).

For once (despite EJ and a few other people) the FIA and stewards have gotten it right, properly right....

That was a massive fire, impressive they got it out in 2.5/3 minutes.

Hope everyone is ok, and Williams manage to get Senna a new car. I wonder what the insurance bill will be...

kd

Wouldn't be surprised if they have most of a new car lying about at the factory if something like this happens...

That does not specify that they needed to exclude him from the entire session, ignoring that fact that he'd already legitimately got into the second and third sessions, and already set a time that would have put him 5th before he went out on the pole setting lap.

What rule says they should have shunted him to the back of the grid?

They'll have a space chassis. They can get that built in about 8 hours.

Just depends on what other equipment was destroyed in the fire. Some will be custom made for that car.

Yes it does, that's the punishment for breaking the technical regulations and also historical precedence.

There are no previous comparable incidents. The closest comparable incidents have been when someone set a faster lap by leaving the track. In such cases, the FIA merely excluded the offending lap rather than acting as if they driver had done nothing all session.

As pointed out yesterday/this morning Buemi got kicked out of quali in Germany last year for fuel irregularities and this is the same thing (it being irregular that Hamilton didn't have enough to do an in lap and take a sample).

The Buemi situation was completely different. He had an illegal fuel mix in his car, not a slight underfueling. They're not comparable at all.

Hammy had an illegal fuel mix. Underweight.

For the one run in which he set his final time. There's no reason to think there was any infringement at any other time in the session. So why exclude him from the entire session? It's totally disproportionate.

Feel free to look through the regs. That is what everyone in f1 is saying. I believe then over you. He ran an illegal car and as such the legality of the car is under question for the entire session.

I have. There is no rule I can see that specifies this.
