Did you miss that part?

"Pirelli claimed that they would have made the changes anyway, regardless of Mercedes’ input."

of course they are going to say that, they have to say things like to save face but I ain't buying it

from reddit

Thread on the tire was reduced and most teams except Mercedes then couldn’t make the SS Work Ferrari couldn’t make the supersofts go any faster and so the only choice to improve was on the softs.

Pirelli risking their reputation to support Mercedes. Sounds likely to me.

what reputation?

also
It looks like BOTH specification of 2018 tyres will be made available to teams at the mid-week Barcelona F1 tests. This will allow Pirelli to compare tyres to see if blistering is actually an issue with the original ones.

too Late for that AMG Pirelli Mercedes

Why is it never Ferrari's fault? It's always someone else's problem. It's the engines. It's the hybrid system. It's Verstappen. It's the race director. It's Pirelli.

Mercedes have a poor (by their standards) first few races of the season. 'They've developed another diva of a car which can't work the tyres properly'.

Ferrari have a few dud results. 'The tyres are useless, the Mercedes engine is too powerful...'

Mods ban this man! How dare he speak of Ferrari that way, all hallowed, wonderful, perfect Ferrari. They can do no wrong and how dare you insult them by insinuating such a thing. Ban you! That is what I say BAN!

Ahem! Sorry, I let my inner Stig out there for a second.

The change may have benefited Mercedes more and/or hurt Ferrari more than others. However it has always been the way, there have been other races and seasons where changes in tyres or problems with tyres has massively changed the result. This change is a relatively minor one and generally the teams are in the same order as before so meh.

It's funny really. There's a big irony in saying "Pirreli Mercedes" etc, when Ferrari have probably the biggest historical file when it comes to influencing and vetoing decisions that don't favour them.

“It is decades that Ferrari has what is called this veto right,” Todt told a media briefing in Abu Dhabi. Ferrari have held their veto power since the eighties.

“When we are going to discuss about the renewal of the agreement, it is part of the things which will be discussed,” he added.
Ferrari last exercised its veto in 2015 to block a rules change requiring manufacturers to supply engines at lower prices.

Either way, no team should hold power over the governing body and it's hardly related to the Spanish GP....

Finally got round to watching it and.... :O ... dull.

Was it at least highlights you watched?

The ferrari vs non ferrari argument in this thread was more interesting than the race

I rated it 2 out of 10.
Its probably what all races would be like without drs

Yes, watched the 7 mins highlight package on the F1 YouTube channel and dipped in / out of the full race.

Got to the mid point after skimming and decided to stop. Only rated it because of my penchant for smashy bang bang on lap 1.

So Vettel has said that Ferrari would have been worse off after testing today in Barcelona. Pirelli let them use the new and old versions of the tires. Ferrari did a run on the old version and have posted a picture, they are torn to shreds and in a terrible condition.

With all the nonsense spouted it turns out that the team with the fastest tire warm up, which is the entire problem with the older tire on the new surface which causes the blistering.... had terrible blistering with the older tire. The team who runs tires cooler and sometimes even struggles to get heat into their tires was the team that just managed to get good performance out of the supersofts in qualifying.

If the old tires were used maybe Merc go to a 2 stop, Ferrari would probably have gone to a 3 or even 4 stop. On reddit and other forums there was so much whining and here the Pirelli Mercedes stuff. Pirelli made the right call and Ferrari were likely the team helped the most by the tire change.

ok the older soft tyres would have been worse but what about the most durable set of tyres in the range (super hard or hard)

Weren't available at the Grand prix, or even made available as a possible selection so about relevant as a chocolate condom.

Nice try. Any further attempts to come from the tit-fosi?
