Spartacus Vengence

The new guy is meh, but Crixus is annoying me now more. Needs to stop being a whiny little girl and get back to how he was. Needs more Oenomaus and Ashur, they are the only really interesting characters, though I am wondering where Ashur's limp has gone!

Sick to death of adverts every 5 minutes trying to watch this on sky one. Back to other means for me.

Why don't you just record it and watch it about 30 mins after it starts, fast forwarding the ads? That way you can miss them all and get on with watching the show :)

I'm quite enjoying it so far, I think people are being far too harsh on the new Spartacus. I think he's doing a good job so far given that he has some very large boots to fill coming into the series after Andy Whitfield's portrayal.

I really don't understand how whiny Crixus was during the last episode. I know he loves her and all but he was dragging everyone else along with him for the ride and then just gave up for a bit. And the way he sacrificed himself to save her when it really wasn't necessary at all, there were only about 5 Romans in that part of the mine and he and Spartacus could easily have taken them all. It didn't look like he got stabbed at the end though, just knocked out so hopefully he'll be back and this time he'll grow his nuts back again, no doubt after some torture back at the ludus

Real gladiators were. Rational was since you going to get cut, better it be fat then important muscles. But modern imagine is they were all muscles.

With two (mostly) unarmoured people armed with stabbing / slashing weapons I would have thought small and agile would be better than large and strong...?

large and stonge will only help if you are unarmed or armed with only blunt staff type weapons or have a lot of body armour on...

I think their size was also more for the spectacle, like the popularity of Heavyweight boxing vs Welterweight etc today. Even through lighter-weights are technically better the crowd still prefers big lads smashing each other in the face Rocky style!

Comparisons to heavyweight boxing a good one. The idea that people danced around while fighting is also pure Hollywood. It was often a slugging match like heavyweight boxing. You are going to get hit and maybe hit badly, so with no armour your only hope was it hit something no vital and having excess fat was one way to achieve that.

But to be honest it you fight with swords for a living the chances you are going to get a serious if not fatal injury sooner or later pretty high, no matter your body shape.

I can see Gannicus and Oenomaus fighting with Gannicus losing. Because he slept with Oenomaus's wife.

You read it here first peeps. :)
