Speaker Cable

Well I've just swapped out some CCA for OFC on some Kef R500's and the difference is negligible.

Not entirely sure how something like van damme can be justified.

their is pretty conclusive evidence that as long as it's 2.5mm squared OFC then that gives you the best experience possible for normal conditions even longer runs. short runs can even use less like 2mm or even 1.5mm but there is usuallu zero point in going higher than 2.5mm unless it's a ridiculously long run.

so yes van damme cable is expensive as you can get 2.5mm cable from other suppliers for much cheaper. currently the german supplier on amazon is the one most are using.

as for CCA being the same it depends on the run (yours was very short so it's possible it made zero real difference in upgrading) and how good your amp, speakers, content, source and hearing is. it's the same when you give someone a set of £50 headphones and a set of £500 headphones and they cannot tell the difference. it depends on everything else in the chain too.

I know i'm repeating from a post earlier, but I swapped from 1.5mm copper cable that came with Yamaha speakers to 4mm 128 strand copper DCSk cable from amazon. The 4mm was overkill and I expect 2.5 would have done it, however it made subtle yet very noticeable difference in sound quality.

For 2 days I ran one channel on the DCSk cable, and other channel on the existing 1.5mm cable and I switch balance from left to right on various tracks. The speakers (i'm running front quad speakers) on the DCSk cable were actually very slightly louder, unless I heard it myself I would not of believed it however.

The DCSk cable is not expensive also, it's showing £44.10 for 50m, and £23.40 for 25m of the 2.5mm at the moment. If ever I need more cable in future I will always pick the DSCk again, my advice is just get the DCSk from amazon.

BTW my experience of the DSCk is with only a 10m run of cable per speaker!

It could well be that your speakers are very slightly different in volume anyway and speaker wire has nothing to do with it:D.

I meant differences in tolerances when the were first built, no 2 items are ever 100% identical.

lots of companies cherry pick their parts so they are within tolerance levels. sennheiser do this on their HD650's for example which are £200 headphones. So I imagine other companies do this for £1000 speakers too.

they are supposed to be very close to each other, so close you couldn't tell the difference. obviously it depends on the manufacturer and budget, etc.

you wouldn't expect cherry picked drivers on £40 headphones for example.

1000 quid speakers are cheap, you won't see cherry picked components in them. You will in my loudspeakers though, but they retail at 50k/pair.

Since 'cheap' is a relative term, the closest you'll get to defining what 'cheap' is is to go with what the majority would say, and the majority would say £1k is not cheap for a pair of speakers.

Bumping this as I need to ask a probably rather silly question. I'm wanting to replace the speaker cable I bought from ebay as it has no markings on it to distinguish it between black and red plus I want something decent that I know isn't a fake. This was mentioned on the previous page but I can't work out if one role would cover 2 speakers and that's all I need or if I'd need to order one roll for each speaker. If this does 2 speakers then 5m is too long so would need to look at a smaller role. Mock if you want at my dumb question :p

That is a single roll of 10m. You could do as many speakers as you want by cutting it. It could do 10 speakers if you only need a metre length or 2 speakers if you need 5m length, etc.
