Spec me....a beer

I presume your talking about the Keelman in Newburn?

If your from the Newcastle area get yourself down there, it's a great location for an all day session.

Where is this then? Good public transport links?

The only time you need to look abroad is for a decent Lager in which Stella, Kronenbourg and Export take some beating for the price and ABV%.

Replace all the mass produced chemical lager-boy rubbish like Stella et all with things like Zyviec, Kozel, Sytyrus (or however it translates to English letters) and that statement would ring so true.

Stick with English Beers mate!, there are way too many people on here recomending foreign beers, more resembling lagers.
The English make the finest beers in the world, No need to support foreign countries when your own is the pinnacle of Brewing. Any of the good independent breweries Ales are all of top Quality.

I hope you can learn that Stella, Kronenbourg and Carlsberg Export are not 'decent' lagers at all; for the same reason that Smirnoff is not a good vodka.

The OP is clearly not judging beer by the price and alcohol content.

Oakham Ales round here have a good range of ales from the lights JHB and White Dwarf, to the darks Oblivion and Tera. They always have a good range of beers whatever your tastes but I would recommend trying JHB, its one of their flagship ales and available in Sainsburys and Tescos.

It's in Newburn. Take the number 22 bus from central station, get off the 2 stop in Newburn then its a five minute walk down a hill and to the right.

True about Stella etc. Cant beat the Czech or Polish lagers. Maybe stop off at the central station Wetherspoons for a few cut price Polish beers after returning from Newburn :D

Theakstons old peculiar
Jennings Cumberland Ale & Riggwelter
Youngs Special, double chocolate stout, champion, ram and special. oatmeal stout, winter warmer
black sheep
woodforde wherry

try some trappist beers too, strong and not everyones taste, chimay, roquefort, westmalle,

also german wheat beers are incredible
Weihenstephan (both weissen and hefe-weissen (light and dark) Erdinger, Schneidder - all lovely

theres a nice champagne beer as well, Kasteel Cru, though its expensive and comes in 330ml botles

Paulaner is a very good german lager

There ain't nothing wrong with Stella, Kronenbourg1664 or Carlsberg Export. They are all 'Quality' lagers at a decent price, though Good Quality Real Ale is where it's at for me personally.
Drinking is Drinking and is not a 'fashion statement' which some of you guys try to make it as. I don't criticise your choice of 'overpriced over hyped' fashion statement so don't criticise my alcoholic beverage. Just get it down ya Neck an chill.

Its quite a win around there with North, Centurion, Head of Steam and Wetherspoons.

I quite like the Duke of Wellington too as it's never too busy except on match days and I avoid drinking in Newcastle then.

Bacchus is good I think as well. They had some horror beer in there called Wasps Nest last time though.

Wrong. How is drinking a decent beer a fashion statement? Most of the time you get ridiculed for drinking ale or decent Polish/ Czech/Belgian beer. For what its worth, I drink the ones you say, but only if I have to because I find myself with doing so or leaving..

Redeemed :D

I'm just referring to the way that on this forum it is somehow a taboo to mention a mass-produced and good-selling alcoholic beverage without getting ridiculed and the way that Niche drinks are given maximum Kudos and there is almost a 'snobbery' towards drinking.
I have tried many of the Polish and German beers reffered to and while nice in their own way, lager is lager, and as such I beleive the three premium lagers I have mentioned to be in no-way at all inferior beverages and easy to get hold of in large quantities at rock-bottom prices in supermarkets.

You get those comments on these forums because most people treat beer as a drink (especially in a thread about tasting different beers) and not as a tool to get wasted. Your 'premium' cans of lager are fine for the latter but do not give off particularly pleasant notes when savoured.

I also don't see how it can be classed as snobbery. The same applies to most things people buy: for example, cars, why buy a BMW instead of a tatty old Fiesta when they are both cars? In this case, the BMW is one of the "niche drinks" listed in this thread and the Fiesta is your Kronenbourg.

I love my life membership of CAMRA. They just sent me four huge sheets of 50p/pint off ale at 'spoons vouchers :)

Yeah nice bonus that. I think they've sent me more discount vouchers this year than the price of yearly membership.

St. Peter's Fruit Beer / Golden Ale / Organic Bitter
Badger's Fursty Ferret / Golden Champion
Young's London Ale
Leffe Blonde

So many to mention, I would however like to recommend the Wye Valley brewery who make some truly excellent beers. Especially the Dorothy Goodbody range
