Spec me a breathalyser kit please

Guinness is **** weak (tasty though) I would have thought 4 would easily be doable. You also drank 4 over 2 hours? So lots wasn't in system and lots had already been processed?

I drank 4 from 7:50 and finished at 9:45 so 5 mins short of 2 hours.
At 4.1% it's 0.1 more than Carling wife beater so it's not that weak.

Are you expecting to score at least 35 if you feel you have drunk enough to be over the legal limit for driving?

What was the actual abv% and quantity of the Guinness you drank? A 568ml pint is not the same as a 440ml can.

I'm not a drinker so I can't take as much as professionals :)
However Guinness doesn't seem to have much effect on me even when it's pints.
A can is 440ml at 4.1% ABV
A quick workout means I should drink 5 cans to equal 4 pints (nearly).

Now if I tried it on 4 bottles of Dog I'd be on my back.

I'm not saying that the readings were accurate. However, if you aren't usually much of a drinker then just because you felt a bit tiddly might not mean that your alcohol level was as high as you think.

I would suspect that a better test would be to hit the spirits. Measure them properly (before drinking!) and get all of your 8 units (or whatever you are aiming for) down your neck within an hour. Ideally on an empty stomach. Then see what happens to your readings over time.

25ml of spirit is considered 1 unit of alcohol according to the NHS.

I might try one of these breathalysers myself as I never “feel” as drunk when on spirits vs. lager.

I have shot glasses so how many of those with Sambucca do I need?
Or how many ml ?

One unit = 10ml of pure alcohol. So if your Sambuca is 40% abv then presumably that's a 25ml measure.

Get 200ml down you sharpish and see how you score compared to the "4 cans of Guinness" test. My advice would be not to drive or operate farm machinery afterwards.

Have there been any more experiments, @SexyGreyFox?

No, not yet.
I do however want to get it calibrated so when I've got a bit of spare cash then I'll continue because I'm not happy that I drank 4 cans of Guinness and only registered 25 even though some think that's possible.
However I had 10 on Christmas Day and you wouldn't know if you were to talk to me.
Trouble is I won't be drinking now until around March.

Please let us know how you get on. I have been thinking about one for a while. I drink little, but when I do go for a "night out" I tend to go heavy, maybe 4-5 times a year at the most.

Xmas being a case in hand - Couple of weeks back, had 9x 25ml Rums - In the morning I felt like I could still be drunk. I stank of booze. Took a walk about the city and got some breakfast and fresh air for a couple of hours, so it was 13 hours since I had stopped drinking by the time I got in the car, however the online calculator thing which says when then alcohol would be totally gone was like 7pm that night, which confused me as that would have been 23 hours after starting and 20 hours after finishing.

There is no way I would have driven whilst not being able to feel like I could, but there is a huge difference between that and being over the limit on a breath test...... it just isn't worth the risk, so this would be a good "green light" as a back up, if it actually works properly.

I did use it on my eldest Boxing Day because she had been drinking quite a bit Christmas Day and then took my wife to get her car just as Prem football started.
She blew 5 so I thought even if it's out she's OK.

They need to raise the alcohol limit.

Ridiculously low at the moment

Do you realise we have the highest in the World already (first column)?

Lolwut...

End of the day, don't drink and drive, exactly like it says on the tin.

Not worth the risk of killing someone or losing your license is it.

On another note I followed a driver down a dual carriageway the other day, they were in the outside lane/almost in the barrier the whole way down ! Very scary.

Phoned the Police with their numberplate, hopefully they found them.
