Spec me a CCTV System

With a Hikvision NVR, can you have just one cable going back to it from a switch with 4/8 cameras connected to that switch?

My cameras are up to 200m away in all directions connected via switches back to a gigabyte switch at the house.

Thanks for that. I looked at the Samsung SRN-472S mentioned and I see the latest model SRN-473S is the same price as the Hikvision with the 4-ch being £190 and the 8-ch being £230 exc Hard Disk.

What's the attraction of the Samsung over Hikvision NVR's?

Samsung SRN-473S can accommodate cameras up to 8MP resolutions (at max of 20fps shared between 4 cameras at 8MP) with total recoding and playback throughput bandwidth of max. 64Mbps. Local and web viewing via single 10/100 network port and guaranteed recording of 1080p at up to 120fps (comfortably allowing up to 30fps recording and live playback for each of the 4 cameras connected) via four PoE 10/100. It has single SATA HDD connector and bracket inside with max manufacturer supported partition size of 4Tb. It costs approx. £190

SRN-472S can accommodate cameras up to 5MP resolutions (at max 30 fps shared between 4 cameras at 5MP) with total recording and playback throughput bandwidth of min. 32Mbps. Local and web viewing via dedicated two 10/100 network ports and guaranteed recording of 1080p at up to 120fps (comfortably allowing up to 30fps recording and playback for each of the 4 cameras connected) via four PoE 10/100 ports. It has two SATA HDD connectors and brackets inside with max manufacturer supported partition of 8Tb. It costs approx. £125.

Hikvision DS-7604NI-E1-4P can accommodate cameras up to 5MP resolution (at unknown fps shared between 4 cameras at 5MP) with total recording throughput bandwidth of 25Mbps. Local and web viewing via single gigabit network port and guaranteed recording of 1080p at up to 50fps via four PoE 10/100 network ports. It has single SATA HDD connector and bracket inside with max manufacturer supported partition of 4Tb. It costs approx. £165.

I thought they changed that and started bundling two licenses following customer complaints?

Even my old 212J was given an extra license for surevillance station (1 was included originally) allowing me to run and record from 2 cameras.

Just got Surveillance station finally setup - Can confirm its defo 2 licenses on the new NAS's. Unfortunately I never installed it on my older one so no idea if it was just 1 or 2 on them.

Now to get some decent IP cameras - hikvisions sound good but there seems to be a big import market on them. Peeps flashing custom english firmware on to them and then recommending we don't try to upgrade the firmware - like woot!

So the Samsung SRN-473S supports 4Gb and the older model SRN-472S supports 8Gb and two network ports. It seems you get more for the buck with the SRN-472S. As long there are no issues with Hikvision cameras connected to them.

I'm ideally looking for (if such a thing exists!). A wireless camera with the ability to save recordings to a shared drive on a NAS.

It's to record wildlife in the garden and I know the wireless signal is strong enough - running a network or BNC cable down there is a no no though.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get access to a Hikvision NVR over the net? I can get access via the app on my own wifi but not when out and about. Is a router problem with the ports or something?

Have you set up and a ddns account at http://www.hik-online.com ?

I just set that up then just put the ip address it gives into the address section when setting up on the app

If you're using the web interface for access, you'll need to forward ports 80 and 8000, if only looking to access via the app port 8000 should be sufficient.

Hikvision does some WiFi models, can configure to record to NAS or MicroSD if you don't have an NVR.

You normally need to connect via Ethernet for initial WiFi setup, after that just power is sufficient .

Ive set one up now and tried to get everything up and running. When on the hik-online website I go to Device Management and then Add Device and add the following details:

Device Serial number: 0001122AABB
Device Domain: cctv
Http Port: 0 (tried 80 and 8000)

When I enter the serial number of the NVR it comes up as with an error message that the device doesnt exist but if I enter the model number DS-7616NI-E2 / 8P it brings up a warning that says the device is not registed in the current region, please edit the device DDNS configuration. Ive checked the NVR settings and the DDNS region is definitely set to UK region.

Any ideas? Ive tried restarting everything. Ports 80 and 8000 are open too

Are you sure thats the correct serial number as mine is only 9 digits and all numbers and never had a problem entering it, also try entering a more unique device domain as there are prob people using cctv already, try something like markm12345

You sir are a legend! It wasnt the serial number from within the NVR software...nooo that would be far too simple! Instead I had to get the steps out and navigate through a jam packed loft to the NVR to get the serial number from the bottom of the unit!

NB - the above serial and domains were just examples as I wasnt sure if someone might be able to access the NVR if they had the actual ones.

Can anyone reccomend a good Hikvision internal camera for my garage to complement the DS-2CD2332-I cameras I use outside. I would expect any burglary of the garage to be at night time so needs to have good IR and I would have thought a small lens as despite the garage being narrow, it's short?

Thanks :)

As I have never bothered about internal cameras, preferring instead to harden the perimeter and, in the case of our garage, I just have a movement detector connected to our house alarm fitted, I couldn't recommend such a camera, apart from the obvious 2.8mm lens.

What you might consider is to not bother having the IR on the camera at all and use instead a couple of these....

....with a 12v supply to completely light up the garage and even though they will emit a red light the camera will still be hidden from obvious view.

Are there any legal requirements to adhere to with having CCTV on the premises such as stickers in windows etc?
