Spec me a CCTV System

I've got a DS7108, and there was some talk a few pages ago of replacing the noisy fan. I ordered the NB Blacksilent Pro as someone recommended, but I appear to have a different PSU and need a 15mm fan with 2 pin connector, whereas the NB is 20mm and 3 pin. Anybody replaced the fan on this Channel Well Tech PSU like I've got. It's bloody noisy and is the only thing I can hear from my equipment rack.

Can someone help me out please? I have read through this thread and am still pretty confused.

My house was recently broken into and so I am bulking out security where possible. One of these elements is CCTV. The house is a weird shape where the ground floor is quite a bit bigger than the upstairs floor but as a result, handing the cameras will be difficult as they will either need to be hung on the lower floor, which means they will be accessible to people or the upper floor but it won't be able to see some of the ground floor as it will be blocked by the lower roof.

I am also a little confused by what I will need. I have a synology that I use for data storage which I think I can use as a DVR or am I best to get a dedicated CCTV DVR? I imagine that I would like a camera on the front and a camera at the rear but may actually need 2 as it is quite a long house.

Does the DVR need connecting to the internet as this will restrict where I can install this which will make cabling difficult.

Any help would be appreciated, like I say, I have read this thread but this is really not my thing and so I am confusing myself.

I'm hoping this is the best place for a strange situation i've found myself in:

I upgraded the firmware of my hikvision nvr and now when I try to access it remotely from a web browser I get the message 'network unstable' and cannot login.

Anyone know of a work-around?

Hik vision cameras and nvrs are regional. And suppliers are buying Chinese region and overwriting the firmware with UK language versions of non official firmware.

Cutting a long story short you're best not attempting to upgrade the firmware unless you purchased from an official source. As it'll probably brick your hik

Thankfully, the NVR upgraded with no issues (got a DS-7608NI-SE-P8).

However, the issue was not with the firmware but with the ports I was attempting to connect to. If anyone is interested, the correct port for remote streaming is:

Port 10554 - RTSP Port

Ok I'm sold on Hikvision but where to buy from?

Bought my two DS-2CD2132F's directly from China, via a rainforest company.

$95 delivered (I'm in the US though) + the cost of two 64gb SD cards (which eliminates the need for a DVR, unless you want constant recording /w lots of history.... I just record 10sec prior and after movement, and have it email a gmail account 3 snapshots at 2sec intervals, incase the camera's themselves are destroyed.

Then you download ivs-4500 from the app store, or use a web browser, setup port forwarding on your router and spend the next few weeks stalking your own property.

It amazed me how many people do a U turn on my drive during the day... Grrrrrr..... ok so whats' the big deal... Big deal is one must have been dripping oil....

They're pretty good.. Very easy to configure, as it just registers the mac address on the samsung smart cam site. No networking knowledge needed. Plug and play. Ethernet or Wifi. You can even leave uPnP off on your router, and no port forwarding needed... No need for a DVR either as the SD card does a fantastic job at recording movement. Night vision is also excellent.... Not POE, so you need to power with the power adapter.

I have two in my garage, which are sprayed matte black and you'd not know were there, unless you were looking for them.

Don't think the samsung tablet of tv makes any difference tbh. I just use a browser or an iOS device to view / playback.

This camera is looking promising

Hi guys,

Looking for a IR CCTV solution for outdoors to monitor my driveway. It needs to be relatively wide (4mm) and it is a double length drive way. Based on this thread I believe I need an NVR with EXIR 3MP camera.

People seem to suggest:
Hikivision DS-2CD2232-I5 (£65 from China)
Hikivision DS-7604NI-E1-4P (£165 from UK)
1TB HDD (£70 from OcUK)

Does this sound about right? Can the solution be done cheaper? How long would you expect it to take a professional to fit into a new build?

Cheers!

As above, I don't think you need an NVR unless you're keen to record a lot of video. I'm looking to set up a system myself and I'll be using the same Hikvision cameras as you but record to SD card and send pictures to an email as thedoc46 suggested above.

Just ordered a new DS415+ synology NAS as I'm upgrading from normal CCTV (coax) to an IP based system.

Anyone any experience with Synology Surveillance station? - Does it impact much on the NAS's performance when using IP cameras?

Just FYI if anyone is looking to do the same - Synology NAS's only come with 1 camera license - in order to use more than one camera you need to purchase additional licenses (about £40 each license)

Make sure your cameras from China have English menus peeps.

For NVR at the moment nothing beats Samsung SRN-472S. Proper "end consumer ready" finished firmware, ONVIF, built in POE, just over £120 without drive.

I've just picked up and installed two HIKVISION's DS-2CD2132F's ($95 each from China) overlooking my driveway, and two Samsung Smart Cams (don't know the model numbers) but accessable via Samsungs SmartCam website or iOS app. They cost me $120 ea

I have SD cards in all of them, which records when it detects motion. Also I created a gmail account, and have my two HIKVISIONS's send 3 pics at 2s intervals, whenever a line is crossed over my driveway.

Can't wait to catch who's been pooing in my mailbox !!!!!!!!!

If you go for the SD card option are you able to access the SD card over the network to pull the data off and clean it down?

I'm thinking of setting up a couple of cams for recording detected motion but I'm not sure if I'd really need an NVR just yet. I suppose by the time I've spent £25 on a cheap and cheerful POE switch I'd not be that far off an NVR mind :p.

I suppose I could record direct to my server but there's more chance of it being stolen (and I don't really want to run it 24/7). Another option would be to share a USB hard drive from my router's USB port, I assume that would work?

On their site it seems to have been replaced by the SRN-473S?

I am currently using my synology nas but want to add another camera or 2 and dont want to pay the ripoff synology licence.

I havent really looked yet but was going to investigate a 4 port nvr so this could be ideal. Is is bettr value than the hik one from aliexpress?

Will that still work if the camera points alongside a path so a lot of movement will be detected during the day?

I assume to get access to the footage you need to climb a ladder to remove the SD card or is it wireless?

Thanks

Where are you seeing that pricing?
