Spec me a CCTV System

^ I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. I'm FULLY aware that IP cameras are ridiculously better, but given the cost of this Swann kit (£250) and the fact it would barely take a couple of hours to install, i bought it. Taking that into account and the layout of my house, it's adequate for me (i.e. Better than no CCTV) for the time being.

I'd like to set 2 1080p cameras at constant and a 3rd round the back maybe on movement trigger, probably doesn't need to be as high quality.
So long as i get 10 days before overwrite, I'd like as constant and as smooth as possible. I would be willing to install a bigger hard drive (which wouldn't really cost me anything) to cover the 10 days if required. I currently back up to a 4TB drive.

Here are the two cameras currently. Can only take off of my iPhone at the moment so they're even worse.

What is the significance of the exposure and what does the 15th/30th second bit mean? I cant find that on my NVR settings I dont think?

Those are nice images and look much better than i imagined, good result there.

Mark ..... The exposure settings I get when logging into the camera and can change the shutter speed. It seems to be a balance for night or low capture enhancement and blurry images due to having the setting too low.

In my back most movement would be straight on to the camera, and it is at the darkest, thus a slower shutter is desirable over the front cameras where passing traffic and greater light from the street lamps favour a faster shutter speed.

THanks, currently the IP of the camera isnt the same as the network so do I need to change all the camera IP addresses to match the network so I can access them ie 192.168.1.x?

Also, can you get motion events to appear on the recording timeline on the Hikvision web access? Ive tried all sorts without any luck. Its rare that I will be accessing anything from the NVR unit itself as its out of the way.

Download and install Hikvision Tools and then when open launch the SADP utility to change the IP addresses etc etc.

when logging into the camera directly eg....

192.168.1.100

via a browser you will get prompted to install the Web Components for the browser, once done all should work.

If you do that do not forget to update it within the NVR otherwise it will still have its old default IP address, at least mine did but mine are connected via a POE Switch.

I changed each and every IP address of my six cameras when bought. From what I understood they needed to be on the 192.168 etc range for me to access them from my home network, I think that is right but either way they then worked via a browser.

For the motion event tagging of a timeline the best I came up with was to download install and configure iVMS-4200 Client. Once that is done launch it and then search under the record playback for a time period to review. From there you need to understand how to search for VCA playback, this will allow you to draw a red chequered squares around the recoded playback window and search for motion (three levels of sensitivity) within that defined area over a timeline. When done this will then show as red vertical bars on the blue line of the timeline, if that makes sense.

You ca nsee here the red bars I mean....

each one represents a motion triggered event.

The above is in the PDF manual of the iVMS-4200 Client software.

My mum has a small shop and needs a wifi IP camera as there have been some thefts. There is no budget but just something that works and also isn't overkill.

she will be recording/watching on a laptop.

any recommendations on which camera to buy?

Hi Guys, i'm looking for something simple to put up in my flat to look over my car in the carpark directly out of my window. Looking for wireless if possible and live streaming to my computer. I already have a spare HDD so i'm just looking for the actual hardware now.

Thanks

I installed my last Hikvision camera at a location which required a wireless link back to the NVR. I used a nanostation and so far it's been going great without a single problem.

If you can't use cable then a nanostation is the next big reliable thing.

Bump - Still need some help with this. My father is impatient and will go out and buy any old box kit and end up complaining about it to me when it turns out crap :(.

Also wondering if it's worth getting a 4 spaced NAS and then use this in combo with IP cameras instead of a dedicated NVR.

Anybody kind enough to suggest a kit/combo of cameras (IP) and NVR to cover the below setup.
The smaller red area in the bottom right is inside our garage.

Does anyone that doesn't charge Axis money make anything comparable to the Axis Camera Companion? The idea is that I can start off with a couple of cameras with large SD cards, and use a PC/iOS app to play back the contents and the free cloud service to view the cameras remotely.

I am unlikely to grow past 2 cameras, and writing to a NAS seems like I'd be saving surveillance data to a device that would get stolen in a break in. So writing to an SD card in the camera seems like a good option as I doubt people would be fussed to get up a ladder and take a memory card out a camera.

From what I understand the Hikvision stuff is a pretty good budget image in -> video stream out device, but the software is very, uh, Chinese.

Where can I find the Samsung srn-472s for approx. £125? Looking at the bay and on google, it is approx. £300-£400.

And does this work with hikvision ip cams?

Whats the remote viewing software like for the Samsung?
App available for smartphones also?

SRN-472S can accommodate cameras up to 5MP resolutions (at max 30 fps shared between 4 cameras at 5MP) with total recording and playback throughput bandwidth of min. 32Mbps. Local and web viewing via dedicated two 10/100 network ports and guaranteed recording of 1080p at up to 120fps (comfortably allowing up to 30fps recording and playback for each of the 4 cameras connected) via four PoE 10/100 ports. It has two SATA HDD connectors and brackets inside with max manufacturer supported partition of 8Tb. It costs approx. £125.

Yeah, those are gone now, discontinued, they were at that price for many months though. If you type full product name into google, filter by country UK, ignore sponsored/paid for adverts on top - the cheapest price in UK was within the first 5 results from the top. As far as I know all Samsung NVRs work with anything that has Onvif. I only had one mild incompatibility with industrial level Bosch camera where codec produced by Bosch would fluctuate largely above the Mbps limit set in settings and sometimes with other cameras connected overload and reboot the NVR box in process, tweaking the settings 2Mbps below the limit cured the issue. I can see the same company that had cheap 742s now have SRN-473s for £174 without drives, so about tenner less than Hikvisions own solution, you might as well keep everything within the same manufacturer if that's the cameras you picked already.

not actually got the cameras just yet.

My brother has a retail store fitted with analogue cameras, which have a ropey basic dvr attached...

I am looking to convert him to a new improved solution and allow him to access the cams from the house....

so either get a decent dvr to attach existing cameras or replace the lot with a new solution, be that Samsung or hikvision.

end solution requires 8 cams, 7 of which are indoors and 1 external. And need to be able to be viewed from remote locations

I described where in my previous post as best as I could, since OCUK is selling IP cameras and we are not allowed to link to competitors...

Looks good :)

A pity that they are only four port and not eight and two HD connections would have been nice. The maximum bandwidth is nice.

Just noted that they do a 8 port version but with the same bandwidth, still better than the Hikvision NVR, in that regard, I bought.

If it's the place that adds up to £220 after tax and shipping then I may have found it.

Does anyone use the Samsung iPolis app? The website works so I can view my cameras and recordings away from home, but the app just gives me an error on the feeds (a triangle and exclamation mark with "HD" next to it). Would be useful to get it working as I use an iPad rather than a laptop 99% of the time.

If anyone has queries about setting up a Samsung NVR with Hikvision cameras I'm happy to help as I've got that up and running.
