Spec me a CCTV System

When I tried it in backup PC it came up with notification bottom right of page HD ready or something - I have lost count of thing at moment- Went into Computer management/storage/ disk management and it wasn't listed - I have read that sometimes it only recognises 740gig or is that on old systems - Backup PC is year old but only AMD A1

Then tried it on Main PC and nothing came up (W7 two years old)- I was going to start again in morning before I gallivant out - Failing any joy tomorrow I will certainly go and find a solution somewhere - I need to prove NVR is a worker - I could be chasing rainbows at moment and not know it.

Thebug

Yes drive is listed WD30PURX

I am going to bed now - tired of this.

DXP55 Sometimes when I read a post a single word stands out that might not be significant with what it could mean, but then again might be......

Caddy

There are other points in your post (s) which are not clear for me to understand but if you are using caddies, I would call those external drive enclosures, they if it is old it could be limited to 2TB.
If you are meaning an internal drive bay then the above does not matter .

Vimes

Sorry about the confusion - They are plastic caddies that hold internal drives in -just push in to and they plug in.

Been to retailer with Hik 7608- He plugged a brand new WD HD in and it fired up straight away- asked if he would try mine and he said hear that it sounds knackered and it took ages for Hik to get past first introduction page and then in HDD menu nothing was showing.- So a second WD HDD useless -

Funny enough both drives came wrapped in bubble wrap and one in box the other in jiffy bag

Now going to OC to change it - they have one left but am a bit sceptical as both are OEM - They do Seagate OEM but only have 2TB - so don't know what to do --If they will open new one and get someone to plug it in and fire it up I will be happy.

Hik 7608 is V3.3.4
Build 150616

Doesn't bode well with those two hard drives. They should be at least sealed in an anti static type bag. Look for another supplier woul be my choice.
Check the next one out as previously mentioned. My new 6TB drive had 0 powered on hours and actually powered on once, when I plugged it in.
I would use no other than a WD Purple.

I took one back to OC and he tested it and said it was knackered - They replaced it and I asked them to test it - he came out and said it was knackered - got big crease down center of case - So that was last one so went for a 2TB Seagate - Plugged it in put password in and up came HD in the list - Initiated it and 20 sec later up and working .

What a difference a working HD makes.

Just got a few weeks wait now for camera. - Seeing my luck I will be only one ever that is stuffed for VAT-Import tax - handling charges and bet it don't work either.:eek:

The first one I RMA should in theory be a brand new one in box when it get's here. - I hope !

That first WD 3TB HD that I sent back with vibration - had replacement today - They didn't have a 3TB so sent me a 4TB -

It is now installed and took 20 sec to initialise - All that faffing about I did

PS - I have a noisy fan - it sounds like fan anyway.

I seem to have got the hang of things and I'm going to buy the rest of the cameras etc. later.
The one thing I'm not too happy about is the quality of the monitoring on my iMac.

The Hikvision software is slooooow and the iVMS-4200 is almost deceased. I'm thinking of resurrecting my old pc and using Blue Iris software on Win7.

Has anyone had any experience of Blue Iris or any alternatives?

Hey guys, I am after a bit of advice if I may!

I am looking to set up a system as there has been a spate of burglaries around our area and I would like to set up a system.

I have read through the last few pages and can see that Hikvision seem to be the go to brand for setting up a home system. I require 4 cameras in total ideally, 3 bullet style cameras and 1 dome camera. Budget is ~£500-£600 including the NVR and necessary cabling. Looking to do a self install (how hard can it be? :D)

I have planned to have 2 bullet overseeing the front of the property with the dome above the door and the other bullet overseeing the rear. I have read up on NVR and see that POE is quite the plug and play system! As far as I am aware with these systems, you plug everything into the NVR along with HDD etc and configure it and your away?

Is there any camera(s) and NVR that comes recommended? Also, I have looked on Aliexpress but the choice is daunting, not sure where to look first! I would prefer local suppliers (at least in this country or even amazon?)

Sorry for all the questions, if anyone could help point me in the right direction that would be great!

Edit
Just to add, here are some of the bits I am looking at so far!
Hikvision NVR DS-7608 NI-E2/8P
Hikvision Bullet Cam
Hikvision Dome Cam
Quick question about the Dome cam, does it move around or is it fixed in one place? If it is mounted on a wall rather than a ceiling, would it show the correct orientation?
Just realised that if I add a 5tb hard drive (do I need any particular drive?) the cost has hit £750! Don't mind spending that much but needs to be worth it! :D

I got my 7608 from UK for £180 and I collected it as it isn't that far from me.

I have ordered this camera
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321904092691 - But you have to wait - on 7th day now - so hopefully end next week or so.

All this is new to me as well so am picking it up as I walk along in the dark. ;)

Where abouts in the UK? Is the 7608 a solid choice for NVR?

That camera is cheap from the looks of it! Other than not coming with a bracket and being slightly older model, is there any other difference?

My knowledge is limited, still setting up my system but the HDD most recommended is the Western Digital Purple drive.
Hikvision also highly recommended, have a look at the EXIR turret cameras. I've got the same NVR as you.

It's the network setting up that's killing me. I've got a camera on a POE switch using home plug networking and the Hikvision pc software sees it ok, I can get an image but the NVR won't record!
The NVR software seems to see the camera but no image displayed.
I'm considering the Blue Iris software but my iMac is not up to it!

Look at my user name at top left for location ? - It was actually on outskirts of Wolverhampton.

I have just ordered a book called "Networking for Dummies "

That's how good I am.

A big change of plans on my part - 7608 is now going in loft so the 22m trunking from PC to garage is being replaced with 40mm black waste pipe as need HDMI and USB leads from PC to NVR in loft.

I don't know if this will be of any help to you, we both sound as though we're on the same path except I'm slightly closer.
The NVR 7608 is plugged in to a separate monitor.
I decided not to put my NVR 7608 in the loft because of heat issues, instead I'm connecting it from my study to a POE switch in the loft via home plug networking.
Temporarily I've put the camera in the loft as well!

In order to see the image from the camera I had to manually assign the camera it's own IP address in the NVR software, in this case 192.168.0.100 and called it camera D1 in the Hikvision NVR software.
Bingo! I've got a nice view of the inside of the loft in the Hikvision NVR software and on the iVMS-4200 software on my iMac.

The installer is coming on Thursday do to the ladder work and the rest of the cameras and an injector are coming tomorrow.
