Spec me a CCTV System

Got my Hikvision NVR, purple HDD and turret EXIR camera yesterday and the damn camera doesn't connect with the NVR:(
Worked with the suppliers support all day and the consensus is that the camera is faulty. They've contacted Hikvision to see if there are any other workarounds but looks like new camera time:(
Luckily I bench tested it first and not installed it on a wall.

Can you not use the SADP tools to see the camera and then change, if needed, the default IP address etc.?

IDK a DS-2CD3335-I is £56 inc shipping to the UK, to me that seems a good price. I paid more than that in 2014. You can also get a discount for numbers, but then risk customs charges.

Cheers for that - everything I was looking at was around £100 mark - perhaps I was looking at stuff I don't need.

My first camera will be something like this
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1-Pi...351304655.html?spm=2114.10010108.0.214.WTdNXE

It will be mounted in facia above garage door - I will cut a hole through facia and poke len's out then fix it inside garage. - Is that feasible ??

I only need narrow angle of vision -6mm would be better than 4mm as it will look straight down drive - fence to right and bungalow to left for about 10m

Does the bracket on those turn up so camera is hanging down but right way up.

I thought this game would be straight forward :rolleyes:

The bracket that I have seen and used on those types of bullet cameras are quite versatile, you can flip and rotate the picture in the cameras software anyway, BUT I would prefer not to get a camera with a ring of LED's around it. However it does depend on the seller and what bracket they supply.
Whilst it is not a dome type, for reflection from the glass, you can still get a halo effect with the LED's being around the lens and in close proximity.
Sometimes the foam/ rubber seal "leaks" light from that row of LED's into the lens as well.
Often that camera type is limited to "30 metres" against that of other EXIR type at 50m - poor at night / low light compared to the others....

This is how mine looks....

upload image online free.

SADP on Windows only sees the NVR as does IVMS-4200 on OS X.
There are also no network lights showing on the camera port on the NVR so I guess it's dead!

Another silly question !

EDIT - All change - just ordered it via Ebay and used PayPal

Just clicked to buy a cam on AliExpress and it asked me to join or log in - So clicked join-- Next page gave me the option of joining with Google Play or App Store - neither of which I have joined up to.

Am I stumped or is there something I am missing.

I have a google account I think as I have Google email address - does that count - Grrrrr - this is a total pain.

Sorry about all these questions

Ta.

sorry im an absolute noob with these but how is that even powered, can you literally just put a sd card in and record loop on that?

I am powering it up with a PoE ethernet cord connected to a NVR (network video recorder)

I am a newby but I read this thread at least twice and gained a bit of knowledge on how it all worked.

I have no problems on cabling side but am dreading the set up with IP address's - but like everything else I have done I have even managed to build my own PC ( it was actually easy)- just read and read and read - then watch Youtube for a week then read again.:eek:

Things are not going well at moment :mad::mad::mad:

HDD came and installed it - Touched Hikvision case and could feel it vibrating so RMA ed it - Still not arrived so yesterday at 12.55 ordered another from OC instead- it turned up at 11.45is today - Now that is good service -

In went HDD and fired up - "Please enter your password " Oh bother it remembered I changed it on old HDD - After a hour of trying finally got it right - Yippeeee.:confused:

By now the damn thing has been beeping none stop and display was showing no HDD - Finally sussed it out you need to install it - Menu HDD - click it to highlight and click "init" - That was an hour ago and it's still beeping.

SO how much longer do I wait till HDD has been formatted - WD Purple 3tb

I am now wishing I had put up another few flood light's instead - this is going nowhere.:rolleyes:

Is it still saying no hdd as it beeps for other things as well, i had a problem with beeping saying it had no hdd installed so changed the sata cable and its been fine since

I think you have the same NVR as me, have you tried setting the NVR to factory default? Also, does your password come up as "strong" and in green lettering?

I'm still no closer as I'm having to RMA the camera but it's all gone quiet at the other end!

I have a full 16 digit password but it say's it isn't that strong but at least I know what it is.

I rang place I got it from and he talked me through to initialise HDD so I thought I was doing it right - Looked on the Tube and it seems the NVR recognises HDD but mine was saying 0mb and nothing else - Changed Sata lead and port and still same.

Rang dealer again and taking it back to let him have a go -In one way I hope it's faulty and another way I hope it's ok - Won't feel such a dick head if it's faulty.

Glad I didn't go to China for it but it's still a 40 mile hike each way.

By way it's 7608

I haven't even got to camera stage yet although one is on order.

I hate it when things go wrong - I then realise how little I know.:confused:

@DXP55 - the first thing that you should do when you buy a new HD is to check that it works before putting it into a device like a NVR. So pop it into a PC and check that it is recognised and then format it etc. Also check it with HD Tune and Disk Info that the SMART attributes check out and the surface scan (quick) is passed ok - that takes very little time.

By doing the above you establish very quickly if the HD is fine and the SATA lead also checks out. If that is the case then it can only be an issue with either the NVR or your methodology when it comes to placing it inside and initialising it.

When I initialise my 4 and 3TB drives (in the same 7608) it takes a short time with a percentage counting up type meter as it is ongoing.

Vimes

I have tried three sata cables - swopped power cable then tried HD in both my PC's -- I assume sata is plug and play.

My backup PC came up with recognition of WD but not main - even so I couldn't find it in Computer management/storage/hard drives - as my aim was to initialise it and format it so I was on right lines before I read your post.

Tomorrow I am going back to retailer and he will look at it - if it's HD then it's on to Stoke - seems funny two WD hard drives 3tb don't work but when put second drive in from my backup PC the NVR recognised it

Perhaps it was because it's a working drive.

I am now right peed off and feel like binning the lot of it.

PS -- I have once more removed the second HD from main PC - put new WD into caddy and tried it again - The PC fails to find new HD - off to OCuk tomorrow

Could you elaborate on the bit underlined, thanks.
