Spec me a CCTV System

Anyone using iegeek cameras? About £30 to £40 each. They get good reviews on the rainforest but anyone here using them? I have a nest thermostat and would love to have nest cameras too, but they are so overpriced.

I have an issue with a neighbor loading his work vans at 5 am every morning . We have been asked to record them but we need sound as well . tested it with my action cam but sound level is to low . is there anything with decent low light capabilities that will record to my pc or memory card and also do decent sound ?

Regards

Anyone used a Hiwatch camera? Any good?

I need to replace two hikvision bullets and wondering what to get. Would be used with my qnap nas

No. Most people I know like myself that are big into cctv cams aren’t going near them as there isn’t anything on offer under the HiWatch brand which would want you to buy one.

IR question. I have a Hikvision ip cam outside but the inbuilt IR emitter isn't up to it. I've already got a camera and external IR emitter round the side but as this is at the front I'm going to struggle to have the emitter outside.
Will an IR emitter work through a double glazed pane. Not needing it to fulfill any motion detection function, just provide light for the external camera to pick up.
Google has failed me as all the questions relate to a camera with IR inside but pointing out, or motion detection IR for the same.

I took the plunge and got one to cover me short term.

Build quality compared to my other Hikvisions is satisfactory. Plastic fantastic but adequate for around a house. Doesn't have the ball joint on it though which is annoying.

Image quality is, for me, decent for what I want so for seventy five sheets I am satisifed with it.

So I think I'm finally ready to get some Hik kit!

Was looking at getting the below NVR with a mix (total of 6 for now..) of DS-2CD2335FWD-I and DS-2CD2342WD-I

https://www.use-ip.co.uk/hikvision-ds-7608ni-k2-8p.html

I believe from reading here I'm correct in saying the 2342 will be best for where we want very good day footage and good night footage (the areas where they will be are slightly lit, streetlights or floodlit) - should be OK?

And that the 2335 will be slightly (hopefully not massively) worse than the 2342 in the day, but in areas with no light at night they will be best for night footage?

Questions:

1 - Is that NVR decent / suited for those cameras? From my reading and speccing up it appears to be
2 - Are my facts / details about the cameras above correct?
3 - With decent settings of around 30fps, a 4TB WD Purple drive should give around 7 days footage?
4 - Any general advice?

Will probably be getting the NVR from Use-IP and then the cams from AliExpress as loads here seem to have used them without issues.

Thanks!

@azibux1 , I've recently installed a 2342 (my first foray in to CCTV and networking to an extent) and whilst I'm still fettling with settings and reducing motion sensitivity and zones I've found several GB to be plenty for the entire days worth of triggered activation on the highest quality/fps settings.

Do you need constant recording?

I'm probably not best placed to comment on suitability of application.

I've bought two cameras from Use-IP and have been impressed with the dispatch time and also Try & Buy return service. I'm tempted to pick up a few others from AliExpress though have read further back with some regional issues and Hik not providing direct support if ever needed if not purchased from an authorised reseller.

Would be interested to hear if there is a recommended seller overseas though.

Thanks for your findings so far... I previously had a 2342 from Amazon a year or so ago to test and it really was an amazing camera!!

Without sounding rude, with it being your first foray into CCTV - I would disagree and say yes, I do want constant recording for sure. Motion detection is great but I'd much rather have the peace of mind of knowing absolutely 100% in the event of anything happening - all the footage will be there. There might be something happening in the distance (at the edge of the camera) that the motion detection hasn't picked up etc that could be useful. For the (comparatively) small cost of HDDs these days that's money I'm willing to spend.

From what I've read you're right-ish... I think Hik will/have changed recently however (find info on the Use-IP site) to not provide support to new end users directly at all - they don't want their pro range of products easily available to end users - this is where AliExpress comes in. Some concerns possibly over failure from some people... But I'm somewhat in the thinking that if the camera arrives DOA it will be sorted anyway. And it is then unlikely to randomly fail after that. If it does, it cost roughly half the price compared to buying from a reseller (aliexpress is around £65 delivered for a 2342) so I wouldn't be too fussed - I think it will be worth the big cost saving.

There are many sellers claiming on aliexpress they are UK / international versions, I think UK / international are the same? I would probably go with the one with the most previous orders and good feedback.

It won't use your NAS, but I've been using two Logitech Circle 2 cameras and been impressed. You get 24 hours of recording free (more if you subscribe), a decent mobile app, live viewing and activity notifications.

They connect via WiFi, are weatherproof and have wired and battery versions. Not as good as a dedicated set up, but pretty good for the money I've found so far.
Hi Mate

Been having a look at these as they seem to get good reviews and am after something simple.

I'd be looking at the wired versions, by wired am assuming this is just the power, and they are still WiFi - from the specs I get that impression, but wanted to double check

Also what length of cable does the wired one come with? and as standard, does it come with the wall mount kit for the outside?

Cheers

Yes, WiFi connection as wired relates to the wire for power.

Cable out of the box is about 2.5 meters - enough to mount at the top of a wall in my hallway where the plug socket is underneath and run the cable over to a corner and down to the socket. I also bought the 4 metre waterproof extension cable for the other camera, so a total of 6 ish metres.

It comes with a bracket to put it on a wall - will work for both outside and inside, but you'll need to supply your own wall plugs for the screws to go into if the material is anything other than simple plaster board.

I've been happy with them so far, except for my crappy Virgin wireless router being able to provide a decent signal for them to connect to!

Not rude at all. I have found motion detection to be incredibly sensitive, especially on default settings. Reducing these hugely helps lower false alarms but I still find cloud shadows and peaks in sunshine and plenty of things I can't even see setting it off. Drawing the grid so as to remove the sky and my neighbours bush helped too :D As you say if there isn't a restrictive budget then why not :)

I agree.

One thing to note that I discovered this evening is that the 2342 doesn't like port 8008. Thought I was going to need to get the ladder out this evening for a hard reset :o Seems they can be a bit sensitive, particularly with high port numbers, so bear in mind especially if you do buy from overseas

Hmm it's a good point, the motion detection I'm referring to having use with is a few years old to be fair...

Thanks! I will stick to lower numbers as I will definitely be changing them from the standard for security reasons. Any reason why higher numbers cause issues? I thought from a technical point of view it should be no different?

It's certainly sensitive and highly unlikely to miss anything.

No idea, networking really isn't my area of expertise. Just seems to be plenty of occurrences where people have changed ports from the default, to particularly high numbers (over 8000) and either immediately or in the coming days & weeks lost connection, bricked or had to hard reset. Fortunately I was able to reach the local login eventually and revert the port back to default.

Mine did connect and work fine for around a few minutes after the port change. And my second camera had no issues on the port over 8000 that I'd chosen but I reverted that back too to play it safe for now.

A friend has an 8 year old CCTV system with four cameras and the DVR is knackered. Are most DVRs easily interchangeable i.e. can I pick up a standard hikvision 4 channel DVR and plug and play? Or do I need to find something compatible or am I also looking to replace cameras?

Cheers

Anybody has success recently with setting up Hikvision line-crossing with gmail email alerts? Synology don't support line-crossing unfortunately.

My Hik cams start at port 8050 without any issues but I must have a play using lower port numbers to see if I notice any difference.

The 2342 is h.264 and the newer 2335 is h.265. The storage saving using h.265 is worth thinking about. Excellent disk saving.

I stopped buying the 2342 8 months ago and only buy the 2335 instead. The 2335 offers so much more and the extra 1MP offered by the 2342 isn’t a concern. If I want good daytime footage, then I would go for the 5/8MP instead which both are H.265.

I need 15 more 2335’s and I might have to go Aliexpress if my supplier is unable to sell me anymore thanks to Hik’s new policy. USE-IP’s prices are ridiculous.

Anyone know what’s needed to get a trade account? Have you to spend x amount of pounds each month to keep your account? I am registered for VAT and it would be a sweatner if I could get a trades account.

Thanks for the responses! I'm definitely considering the 2335s!

How much of a difference does the lack of 1MP make in the daytime?

Any specific 5mp H.265 models you'd recommend? I might get them in place of the two / three 2342s I had in the mix if I can make the price work.

Any chance you'd be able to offer any advice please on post 1527? Particularly the suitability of my choice of NVR with the 2335/2342s? That's the only bit I'm unsure on and you seem to be in the know a fair bit more than myself :D lol if you don't mind I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Can anyone suggest a suitable camera that can be linked to a POE router and has the ability to be accessed over the internet and record either internally to a memory card or to a computer. Wont need any more than a days recording really but 3-4 would be useful.
