Spec me a coat

Serious answer for once, I am on my second M&S overcoat and it's the best item of clothing I've ever bought. It's the silver lining to every winter, I've yet to find anything else that comes even close, and I've had some pretty asspensiff coats:

Rab microlight.

Just bought the Alpine one. Not recieved it yet, but if it's as good as my sleeping bag - I'll be happy.

Not much beats a down jacket for warmth, even the cheap decathlon ones are brilliant. Don't do much camping without one - apart from the two weeks of 20c :D

For a grand it should clean your teeth and wipe your arse for you as well as keeping you warm.

There's no justification for that kind of price. It's no better than a dozen different brand coats you could get from Go Outdoors for less than £200.

I got a Craghoppers one from there a year or so ago. Actually got it for about £60 coz it was an end of line - so I can't recommend the actual one. Fastastically warm - to the extent that if I'm walking in it I find myself unzipping it to cool down, even in sub-zero temperatures.

Here's probably the equivalent to that ridiculously priced Canada Goose one:
Tenth of the price.

Yes quite like that and a very good price

I have a barbour over the suit trenchcoat (not the wax type) for a suited commute. It’s thin but the insulation comes from the layers underneath. What it does do is stop the wind and rain.

I have a bond street wool coat - really warm over the suit (about 25 years ago!). Now I would opt for layers rather than one heavy layer. Needs a scarfe to protect the V area.. and they soak up water like a sponge!
