Wow...you got 17 SandyBridge systems...you are loaded :D

Joke aside, I agree with the others that the GTX580 would be a better choice, as the MSI 6970 Lightning would still be a bit behind a stock speed GTX580 in terms of speed and with not much overclocking headroom left, where as the GTX580 on the other hand you would still have plenty of room for overclocking.

If you want a single gpu card the 580 is your best bet, if your happy to use multi gpu then you can get a pair of MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 Twin FrozR II OC 2048MB for £380.

This is exactly what I'm going to do, CFX 6950s beat the 580 hands down.

Theres the first issue, if there are any xfire issues
Secondly I personally prefer single card solutions to dual, having recently swapped form Xfired 4890s to a 560
And Finally, 2 6950s are overbudget :p

I am running crossfire 6970's and have not noticed any issues atall.

Personally, I'm going with the majority, saying stretch your budget and get two 6950's. They will demolish a single 580 and AMD are pretty much on top of crossfire problems these days anyway.

Hi forgot to mention that my monitor is 2560 x 1440 have read somewhere that the higher vram is better for high res, thats what pointed me towards the ati?

Thanks Nige

SLI and crossfire not really wanted or good for me as built system for photo editing and then along comes bf3 and brings me out of gaming retirement grrr (motherboard only suitable really for one GPU)

Mirror what I said above.

Twin 6950's. 2GB Vram each, you will be more than happy.
