Spec me a torch

Maglite, these LEDs are bright to look at, but they cast hardly any light on stuff.

Put an Led conversion into the maglite (a 3 cell) and it far out performs these led torches. Not only that but the battery life lasts you 6 months.

I use mine on nights walking around aircraft for inspection and the smaller LED torches won't cut it, plus the batteries won't last a night.

I'd rather have a bigger torch that actualy lasts than one of these 2aa torches that last a few hours.

It just depends what you're using it for. There are situations where you don't need more than a hour's use from a torch - but need it light enough to carry many miles for hours. For that you wouldn't want the extra weight associated with the unnecessary 6 month life.

LED Lenser haven't managed yet then.

I've tried a lot of their torches, only to end up using the mag again.

LED Lenser torches are quite good, but they don't have hugely powerful LED's in most of them, they are more general torches. (Although I'm a little confused as to what your statement means?)

Other brands have though, and as I said, I haven't seen an LED torch that can compete with the 1,000,000 candlepower torches (although they can probably make one) but LED torches already compete with the best Maglites and beat them, as well as be a smaller size and have a longer charge life.

As I just said, the mag isn't as bright, but you can see a lot more with it.

I just get frustrated trying to do actual work with an LED torch, they give you no contrast at all.

Have you seen the photos I posted earlier in this thread?

The maglite that I used in those tests, now has an official maglite LED in it now. I must try and get some more photos up.

Granted 6 months is OTT but the hour or so you get from these torches on 'full beam' is rather pathetic. I prefer to carry the extra weight and know i've got a torch on me for fishing or night inspection that won't crap out on me after half hour.

The 3 cell large or the 2aa maglite. The 2aa maglite conversion is rather pathetic and doesn't adjust at all. Even the LED AA maglite is crap.

3-D, well that's what the post states.

No it doesn't it says 3D with a filament bulb. The 2AA with a Led conversion I would agree is crap. I use it only for emergencies at night up close.

My 3D with an LED conversion would kick the arse out of all those and has a decent battery life. Which is why we all use them at night on the line for inspection.

Yeah, 3D with filament bulb, a standard 3D maglite, which is what your post was asking. No it wasn't an LED but it was a maglite, and you stated in your first post that maglites are better than LED torches, implying that you were talking about non aftermarket modified maglites. :s

Just got my Fenix L2T. Its stupidly bright. I opened it up and was surprised at how bright it was, played about with it and noticed that i was using it on low......when its on high it hurts my eyes if i shine it on anything close...

Best torch I have ever had :D

What are people's thought on the 1AA or 2AA Fenix? I'm thinking that the 1AA version is better (smaller, lighter, etc...) and the 2nd battery you just keep in your pocket and swap in it when needed. Provides a break-point half way so you know how much you've used etc.

I have both.

I usually have the 2AA when I go out - keep it in my coat/jacket pocket.

I use the 1AA at work. It's kept in a leather Victorinox penknife case on my belt as the original supplied case (synthetic polyamide weave of some sort) wasn't tough enough. The 1AA is more than bright enough and it's short length means I can hold it my mouth if necessary.

I have another 1AA that I keep on my desk at home.
