Sorry for digging this thread up again - there's a lot of good info in it. I'm looking of a torch, the Fenix LD10 looks to fit the bill. Needs to be light, waterproof, tough... Also like the idea of strapping it on my bike.

However, £40 is a lot for a torch - is there anything close to as good for say £20?

110 lumens for 4+hours with some nimh AA 2800mah rechargable batteries, take spares and that's nearly 10hours

get the textured reflector version as it has a smoother light spread/throw.

You might want to consider the L1T - £5 cheaper than the L1D and doesn't have as many on modes (which is better IMO). Or the L2T £1 more than the L1T and twice the runtime (2xAA). I have both.

You haven't tried a proper LED torch, yeah that used to be the problem but high power LED torches now will outperform a normal bulb torch.

My Fenix can light stuff up over 100m away and will outperform most Maglites. It's also only slightly bigger than the 2xAA maglite.

As I just said, the mag isn't as bright, but you can see a lot more with it.

I just get frustrated trying to do actual work with an LED torch, they give you no contrast at all.

LED Lenser haven't managed yet then.

I've tried a lot of their torches, only to end up using the mag again.
