It's not a "what's that lurking down the end of the garden?" light, unless you have a tiny garden. But it is an excellent work/companion torch... especially if the dog's parked its poop in the dark somewhere. On high the floody nature is as useful as daylight and when wandering down a potentially messy path there's no scanning back and forth to see where you're going; just aim it somewhere ahead and get on with it. I thought that floody nature would bug me, but the benefits outweigh the ability to focus down to a small area way ahead. In reality I need that very rarely, but I routinely need a lot of light near to me, and USB charging is so convenient.

Very happy to have had this brought to my attention.

Looking at a new head torch. Does anybody have an olight H1R nova? It looks good for what I need.

Pretty much all Olight stuff can be reviewed the same - good functionality, durable, solid construction, good battery life - does what it says on the tin but not quite as well thought out as might have been ideal but nothing that is majorly wrong.

Thanks ! I’ll probably pick one up. Basically it’s a torch and headlight in one. 600lm. And rechargeable :D

What are the best 18650 batteries to use? The ones I use run out in no time at all.

All depends on the draw of your torch, but generally Samsung 30q 3000mah cells are rated the best overall and can handle 15 amps

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluelover-...1515272838&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=30q+button

But there is the Sanyo NCR18650GA that can handle 10 amps and are 3500mah.

You'll probably want button tops as well.

Why the IMR cells? I thought these were primarily for Vapers as most torches won’t need anywhere near that amount of current.

Depends on the torch, mine run batteries in series so one cell or four can run all four xml led's.

IMR cells have much better cycle life these days plus thermal runaway is more likely with ICR cells.

Nitecore 2600mah for a tenner delivered. Im fairly sure there was a 3000mah if I was willing to wait a month at similar price but I dont need it for caving or anything that important, says 9.6wh on the side if thats any comparison.
I'm about to test out some 26650 batteries, only cheap ones and for somebody I'm getting a battery pack with a 26650 built in, recharges from USB and its basically a cree torch but wont be used much.
What kind of lumens for what duration is considered good for a 18650 capacity. My best fenix doesnt like 1000 lumens on for that long anyway.

Unprotected batteries I dont think should be used in series in cheap torches, I dont want that in my hand :o All my old laptop ones wore out eventually but they were free anyhow
