Spec me an LED Torch

What's a good torch for a 2 hour night walk?

£50 budget. Not fussed about the size.
Wurkkos FC11 is a great buy at less than half the price you are willing to pay and comes with a battery and built in charging.

Specs say 700lumens for over 2hrs but with night adjusted vision the 300 lumen mode would be plenty.

Just been to Lidl and they have a small LED torch for £3.99 so I had one - It's not bad to be honest -even has a belt holster and a lanyard. It also has pulse and dim - I thought it would be plastic but it looks alluminium - very light so it might be. 3x AAA batteries. 6" x 1-1/4"

Ew, I hate 3xaaa flashlights :(

Am I fine using a UltraFire 18650 3600 mAh Battery on a Astrolux® C8 SST40 2200LM 619m .

I've seen some reviewers recommending a Samsung 30Q 3000 mAh and have a couple of UltraFires hanging about the house.

Reading the torch spec, it doesn't look like it has any special battery requirements, so any 18650 will be fine by the looks of things. :)

Bit of throw, nothing major couple hundy metres should suffice.
But decent flood would be nice, it's for running plus the odd bit of photography.
I've seen the likes of the Luminus sst40 red, but only in big torches like the Noctigon K1.

Upwards of 1200 lumens would be nice.

You can get coloured filters designed for hand torches, might be an option... https://www.torchdirect.co.uk/filters-diffusers-and-traffic-wands.html

I've not seen a head torch with good throw on the red LED, maybe on one of the huge head torches you can get, but you probably want something light weight for running.

I'm not sure if you'll get a single unit that covers all your requirements. There's the usual Petzl head torches, I think most runners go for one of those (not a runner myself).

I've got one of these (for camping), which is very lightweight, with a red LED and good for close by stuff, but it won't light up a couple hundred metres... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Diamond-Mens-Spote-Headlamp/dp/B07MDVD626/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=black+diamond+head+torch&qid=1606322505&sr=8-13&th=1&psc=1

Something like the Skilhunt H03C RC ( https://www.skilhunt.com/product-detail/h03c-rc-red-green-blue-white-multi-colors-led-headlamp/ ) could fit the bill, although the red, blue and green modes appear to only be full brightness which may not be ideal, and it is aimed more at flood rather than throw. Plus, the multi-colour LED is a big compromise on brightness vs. a white LED.

Another option would be something like the Skilhunt H03F RC ( https://www.skilhunt.com/product-detail/h03f-rc-usb-magnetic-rechargeable-led-headlamp/ ) which has a flip-over diffuser and is much brighter on maximum settings. You could paint/resin the diffuser a red colour and would then have the option of white or red at any of the brightness settings. Also wouldn't necessarily have great throw with the diffuser across though.

They look a tad heavy for running, might be an option for the other requirements, though.

I've got a couple of similar sized Olight headtorches that would just bounce all over the place if I tried to run anywhere with one on my head :P

Perhaps. I use mine for walking/trekking rather than running, although the head strap is very good and holds in place really well.

Yeah, I've not had a problem walking with one on, never actually tried running with one on though, these days I'd only get a few feet before collapsing in a heap :p

Just searched for the best running head torches and found this, which might be of use... https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/gear/tech/g28655876/best-running-head-torch/

Like I say, I'm not sure you'll (OP) get a single unit to meet all your requirements.

For night photography, want something I can see plenty with but not bugger up my vision.

That and it'll be handy for dog walking.
That second skillhunt is probably a great option. And I happen to have clear red acrylic paint as well.
Plus the usb charging is very welcome.
