Spec me an LED Torch

I don't think those 3000mAh ones will be very good at all and coupled with the cheap charger could possibly be a risk!

Keep an eye on the voltages over time.

Are IR lasers legal in the UK?

Why do you want one?

Is anyone else concerned some idiot might go around blinding people with one of these someday?

As far as i know the normal eye response to bright light doesn't work with IR so someone could in theory do far more damage without anyone actually knowing until it's too late.

2400 is where the sweet spot is dude :)

In fact looking around, it seems unless you're paying a high premium, 2400 is the sweet spot for most brands for these kinds of torches.

I'd say go the dismantling of laptop batteries route. At least then you know that the batteries won't explode due to having poor quality cells!

He might want one for use with an NVD. if i had some NVG's or something like that i'd definitely want an IR laser.

Damn right! I have 10 18650's that i didn't pay a penny for and they all work fine.
The difference between my reclaimed laptop cells and the ones that you get in the Ultra-Mega-House-on-Fire cells is that I know that the cells are old and so i can take appropriate precautions.

I'm glad to hear that people are buy the Xtar chargers, they're the very best of the cheap ones. It's a shame they're being packaged with the UltraCrapFire 3000mAh cells, but the cost-price on those is approximately 0p so i'm not surprised.

I think I sicked up a little there.

Do you have good house/fire insurance ;)

I've been using the same charger and batteries for ages, admittedly I'd never leave them on charge if I wasn't in the house but the charger only pumps out 500mAh so I'm not overly concerned with it causing the cells to explode.

Also, the Ultrafire 3000mAh cells seem to perform and last just as well as the ones I've raped from old laptop batteries and as for safety, pssh, just because one old dude slapped 3 in a huge draw torch and it exploded does not make them inherently unsafe.

true, but the fact that they're inherently unsafe makes them inherently unsafe, which, when couples with dodgy chinese business practice, ethics and technology, makes the threat of catestrophic failure not just theoretically possible but reasonably likely. :p

What is the best place to get one of these Xtar chargers from?

Manafont or ebay, wherevers cheapest really :) There are a couple of UK places selling them for £15.99ish if you cant wait for delivery though.

Edit - Actually this place does them for £15.95 with free delivery, only a couple of quid more than the HK ebay lot.

ebay basically, unless you can't wait for it to arrive. make sure you pick a seller with LOTS of good feedback and remember to get the WP2 II version, because it's better and has the USB charge feature.

That's where i got mine, but remember that that's the old version. the new one has better termination-detection circuitry, adjustable charge current and also the USB-charge feature which could be very handy.
