Wow I really like that. I don't mind that it's internal charging only, it's MicroUSB, so will charge off my phone charger but and I also carry a +9000mAh powerbank with me (5v 2.5A output) so charging isn't an issue with this in mind when out exploring.

Very tempted to pledge, that OLED display is awesome as well.

It seems that Solarforce have released a Zoomable flashlight from the 'L2' stable:

Looks interesting, although the lumens appear a bit low compared to some of their other options (not sure whether this is because of some loss through the lens, or because they are not fitting it with the latest emitter).

Looks like it's a push/pull zoom rather than a twist

but might be OK. I'll probably wait for some reviews to come out before I dive in, but at US$30 it could be one for my 'collection'

Oooh thanks for that. My SolarForce L2 SS with XP-L pretty much lives in the car these days, but at that price, that BLF will easily replace the LuckySun D80 as an EDC. And rather powerful too!

Looks a bargain for that price. Just wish it was a standard battery size so its easy to replace them anywhere you might get caught short.

Why do I want a protected battery over a non-protected, out of interest?
It is an extra plastic film layer is it?

Protected has a little circuit board that shuts off power rather than letting you run the cell so low it dies and can't be recharged. You want protected.

It's far more than that...

The circuit board is there to prevent you from over or undercharging the cell, which in the best case will cause a dead cell or in the worst case, an explosive cell.
