As in title, I'm after something that has a bit of a story to it, and something with good graphics to keep me entertained. I gave DAO a shot, but found it a bit too complex for an uninitiated rpg player like myself, so something more like fable 2 in terms of simplicity please! I like the idea of running around hacking things up and levelling up characters, but not the idea of working out hitpoints etc. Does anyone have anything that springs to mind? Cheers!

Mass Effect?
Knights of the Old Republic?
Fable?
Borderlands?
Fallout 3?
Bioshock?

The Witcher. It's got a slow start, but comes into it's own after the first chapter, it's a very action orientated RPG, lots of hacking and slashing. You play it solo, there's no party members to worry about.

You'll struggle to find something less complex than Dragon Age.

That rules out:
Baldur's Gate
Fallout
Any D20 game
Any Final Fantasy game
Pokemon

.... and most other things.

Apart from the lousy AI system, Dragon Age is a very simples game. You control one character at a time, and you have a limited selection of spells to choose from, which are very straightforward heal x amount or damage y amount.

Heck, you can even let the computer level your characters for you...

I'm struggling to think of something as easy to pick up and play than DA (although don't take this as a recommendation - I'm not a fan).

What's the first fable like compared to the second? I presume the graphics will be a bit blocky etc, but in terms of gameplay is it much the same?

I was thinking about fallout 3, might check it out as I kinda missed it when it came out.

Speaking of star wars, what's the Force Unleashed like? I always like being the bad guy.

The Force Unleashed is a good game, very fun to play and you may want to check out Jedi Knight as well if you're interested in The Force Unleashed. Fable is pretty much the same as the second and the graphics aren't exactly different either, i find them to be a similar game with a similar storyline, worthwhile though if you get the special edition version.

It was more the micro management than the complexity of it. Having to constantly pause the game to adjust what a character was going to do really slowed it down for me. I have no problem doing all that in turn-based combat like FF, but that was the main reason I dropped DAO

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

Granted, the graphics are now pretty dated (early Source engine) but its a cracking game, loads of action and storyline. Almost completed it again for the umpteenth time, this time with a difficulty mod making it a LOT harder :D

Rock on, I think that'll be my next port of call, and perhaps fable as a fallback. Awesome, cheers guys.

Oooh yeah forgot about this one:o

Brilliant game!

is Bioshock classed as a RPG ?

Don't see how it would be.

If there were a two-player co-op version of BS, would prior choices determine each player's role, or would personal preference determine each players role?

I think that's how you'd decide.

"I'll cover you." Is player-allocated role.
"I picked all the sniper talents" is a game-rule allocated role.

The latter would indicate a role-playing game, the former wouldn't be. Since you can swap plasmids whenever you like, I think BS has a very low claim to being an RPG.

Just got back into Torchlight myself. Having fun. :D

Oh and I also played about 15 hours of Dragon Age until I decided that I preferred just one character not a party of 6 +. Means you can't focus on one really.

well I don't see classes as such in it it does level up like one but loads of games do that these days RTS inc

For something rather different, take a look at King's Bounty: The Legend. RRP is down to £10 now and I found it a lot of fun when I bought it last year. I bought the sequel yesterday. The combat might not be what you're looking for, though.

This is in PC games...am I wrong in thinking that the only Fable on PC is Lost Chapters? If there are any others, I'll buy them. I liked Lost Chapters.
