Spec me - Home Cinema System Separates

Remember, this is also November last year. So if you factor in further depreciation and subtract the price of the two Play:1s, you're looking at less than £150 for the Beam 1. Bidding on eBay for them seems to top out around £150, and that's for the ones with the wall mount included.

IIRC they were about £400 brand new, so it has lost about 62.5% of its value. Granted, you may have paid less than that. I did a quick check on a Samsung bar of the same age and price range, the depreciation is very similar.
lol@ quoting a LiE for sale thread. That was an outrageous Bargain given it has £100 worth of Play1 speakers. I would have snapped it up in a heartbeat.

What is the Samsung bar of 2019?

At least I provided some evidence of their going rate. You just claimed you could still get £200 for it

Look, if you want to believe that Sonos soundbars are somehow more valuable than others from similar major brands, then go ahead. The reality is that they depreciate at about the same rate, and I'm certainly no worse off going for Samsung's flagship than paying the asking price for the equivalent Sonos setup, I'd be more out of pocket to begin with before worrying about resale value.

OK so no link to the 2019 Samsung then? :D

Where's your link to these 5 year old Beam 1's still selling for £200?

Sorry to break your illusion that Sonos seems to hold its value much better than other similar devices from major brands.

Anyway, here's another one that was listed over a year ago, which also didn't sell here for less than £200, and it includes the wall mount kit. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...dbar-boxed-in-white-with-wall-mount.18972145/

Seems my summary of the situation w.r.t to the AV folk was spot on.

P.S. the 2019 Samsung flagship was the Q90R which is now the model number of their QLED TV. The only one I can find is £180 and its RRP was £1500 (LOL).

The Q90R wasn't the equivalent to the Beam 1, but nice try. It's also difficult to compare like for like, as Samsung releases a new range every year.

I'm not "AV folk" at all by the way, that's the other poster who suggested all sorts of equipment to you.

I was simply questioning the amount you thought you could get for your Beam 1. I have no problem with you buying and/or using Sonos equipment unlike others here.

Looks better before. Anthem AVM60? With Monoprice amplifier, SVS subwoofer

Yeah but just goes to show you don't always need separates and the sound of these devices have come a lot further than people give them credit for. I certainly for one don't miss the old days of having wires etc and my Bravia quads give me a better immersive experience than some systems double the price. I can understand if it's a hobby and you really into it but I definitely wouldn't discount some of them if undecided.

I do agree the subwoofers that come with these packages is the let down of the systems though. One of my electronics friends is currently working on a device for me that will allow me to use any third party sub with my quads, so looking forward to getting that up and running.

Can understand why someone wouldn't want 9.4.4 it takes up a lot of space, but what else would I put it in it's place? Living room would look empty without the stuff , but in total price, not really compared to some.

With the space saved on Sony quad you can get one of these if you're able to add RCA pre out to the Sony quad ;-)

Subs hidden in the back corner of the room and can't be any bigger than a SVS PB 1000 pro which is top of the list currently.

Tonewinner have this one, probably better value than the SVS.

and this 10"

Do they have apps at all? That's what is appealing about the SVS subs as once I've put the sub in the corner it's a pain to get at the controls at the back.

Also the mod he is making is easier if the sub has speaker level inputs otherwise I need to get additional adaptors and just becomes a bit more messy.

Yes, app control.

Only way I can think of getting a soundbar type thing to work is a wireless to RCA bridge or something like that.

What connections do you have on the sony?

Or maybe get a Sony SW5 plate amp and connect the high level output to the SVS speaker level input? Concern with class D amp into a class D amp so need to find if that's ok.

No freaking idea as what you're trying to do is non standard as just bodging thing together, that Sony Quad doesn't seem to have any regular pre outs.

Ideally you want Sony wireless receiver to RCA pre out, but I guess it's closed source system

The sub itself is wireless and no connections on that side and no sub out on the control box, just standard hdmi, network port etc. He's going to take the board out of a SW5 which I nabbed cheap as has external damage and basically create a unit which then will link with a third party sub, so the Sony system will still think a unit is attached and it will work wirelessly.

Basically the same as this:

I was right lol!

Another option (if he knows what he is doing) is to take the low level signal after sony plate pre amp, but before the amplifier, so just use sub pre out RCA jack in box.

Find out if class D amp into the subwoofer is safe, there are issues where damage can happen.

I asked and he said the below, so will know more once the unit arrives and opened it up etc.

"It's possible that I could just tap into the line level before the amplifier. It depends on the design and if it won’t create other issues. If that’s the case then I’d just put rca output connections on the new enclosure"
