Spec me - Home Cinema System Separates

yeah that's a much better design, he can then possibly remove the class D section , isolating the low level signal, reducing power consumption and idle heat etc.

Much better method, if you can get pre out. Less electronics in the path, as you're not converting low to high then high back to low level.

I asked and he said the below, so will know more once the unit arrives and opened it up etc.

"It's possible that I could just tap into the line level before the amplifier. It depends on the design and if it won’t create other issues. If that’s the case then I’d just put rca output connections on the new enclosure"

Contact SVS, ask if if it's safe to take class D plate amp outputs into SVS plate amp high level inputs.

I know you can't do this with Rel/BK, you'll blow the class D amp up (I think you have to leave one of the three cables disconnected)

He's ran his SVS PB 2000 that way on a different soundbar system for nearly a year now with no issues in his lounge so shouldn't be an issue.

His proper listening room he has focal sopra 3's with rythmik dual 15" subs.

It was only £720 so think I've priced in most of the discount. If it gets substanially cheaper I'll boomerang it (bought from Amazon).

That's a pity because Peter Tyson do a Denon AVR with 5.1 for £719 (link). Although I would still prefer to start with a higher quality stereo setup and build it up, which is kind of what I did.

Although, once you start it's easy to get sucked in and before you know it you are finding yourself down at CEX buying up all sorts of Blu-rays because your viewing pleasure has just magnified big time! lol

For what it's worth I started with 2.0 but rapidly progressed to 3.0, 5.0 then 5.1 in just over a month, but it's definitely worth it and each progression is very noticeable which helps feel like it's a good value for money. I was actually very surprised at the difference getting a subwoofer made because my fronts would handle 39Hz+, but it's not so much the extra bass that I noticed, even though the sub goes down to 20Hz, but more that the fronts really opened up.

That's me at my limit now though, I've pushed the wife as far as she's go! lol

Subwoofer helps freeing the load on your amplifier as well since it's high passing the speakers then <80hz or so is directed to the sub. Speakers also have lower impedance in lower frequencies also so that lessens the load. Plus it's not wasting power amplifying frequencies the speakers cannot reproduce. Decreases distortion, increased dynamic range, decreased things like port noise reduces chance of damage by overdriving the speakers, or clipping the amplifier etc.

@Simmz how are you finding the Sony quad theatre? Does it suffer from the phantom centre channel issue their previous flagship model had?

What was that issue?

I've got mine paired with an A95L so I'm using that as a center. I know on the old model the TV and speakers played independently so there was quite a sonic mismatch. On the quads, the TV gets included alongside the calibration and they play in unison so it's made a massive difference, but yes I am really enjoying the system. While much more expensive systems may have better quality, I'm still blown away how immersive the system is and even bests some of them.

If you live anywhere near Berkshire feel free to come have a demo.
