Spec me Some Good Champagne

Well here we go. I caved and gave it a bit early as i was getting into a nasty habit of buying extra bottles for the sake of it!

Left to right

Jaquart...Bollinger...Taittinger...Camel Valley (not champagne but always fancied it)...Vranken...Gosset...Ruinart...Heidsieck Monopole

Then shoved at the back theres Veuve and Moet in boxes and then Lanson and Nicholas Feuillatte behind them. The Gremillet was kept downstairs to drink but not had it yet.

Good effort.

I had a bottle of Pol Carson at the weekend, it was surprisingly nice. I thought it would be a meh bottle but I rather enjoyed it and it's fantastic value as well.

Champagne and ribs. Serious combo.

Hah, missed this. I can and you could too :)

You can get 1er Cru wine from Domaine Leflaive for around £70. The Meursault 1er (Sous dos d'Ane) fits in this price bracket and of the Puligny-Montrachets the Clavoillon does also (£595/12 in bond release price for 2010 so £61.78 a bottle taxes paid). Personally I really like the style of Clavoillon.

Pucelles, Folatières and Combettes (1er Cru) are all a bit more expensive at around £100-£120 a bottle. Then you get into the Grand Crus but they're another step forward on price.

Personally though I tend to buy the Bougogne Blanc...

Hmm. Where are you finding these prices from? 1er Cru Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive does not fall into the £70 bracket. However you can buy their P-M for about that in bond, yet that isn't 1er Cru.

Village Puligny is about £45 on release taxes paid, I'll send you a Trust thing with more info.

Awesome !! I just checked this thread earlier to see what Champagne would be good to get for Xmas.

Just won 2 bottles of Champagne in the work Xmas raffle....

1 x Monopole Heidsieck & Co Gold Top from 2007
1 x Monopole Heidsieck & Co Blue Top Brut

Are these good??

Certainly does look very good.

Anyone tried Charles Mignon champagne before? Aldi are doing a bottle of NV Grand Cru for £22.99 which looks pretty reasonable.

Also not sure if it was worth it but they were doing a bottle of 2004 Margaux for the same price which intrigured me and subsequently bought. Not sure if it was a good deal though!

What was the 2004 Margaux? Could potentially be very nice.

Anyone noticed the insane price increases at retail over the last year or two for Bollinger? I bought a case on offer at Tesco 2 years ago for £25 a bottle. It's currently retailing at £41 (occasionally on offer at £10 off which shows you how much markup is going on).

Although I drink top quality Cava as an every day bubbly (the missus is Spanish) and pick out better champagnes for really special occasions, I'm a big fan of Bollinger for normal birthdays/occasions etc as I've yet to find someone who doesn't like it.

For info, if you want to stock up on Bollinger, Costco sell it by the case at £29/bottle equivalent.
