Spec me some speakers

Aego do make some high quality expensive Hi Fi equipment and are probably the best 2.1 out there for pc.I think the sensible opinion though is that nobody should be looking at pc speakers really for music especially rock unless on a tight budget, but if they do then the aego are probably the best.

It really just comes down to the price it's not too hard to get an amp and quality bookshelf for much more than £100.The only problem is that maybe some people are put off buying second hand or just cant be bothered but in the long run it's probably well worth the hassle.

pretty much agree with that, although I don't think PC speakers are all that bad for music, especially considering I don't really listen to rock music and nor do a lot of people.

hi,
I can stretch my budget to 100 pounds. Regarding the Aego M speakers I have heard them myself and think they are really good, I also listened to some creative T40s the other day and they sounded alright.
I don't mind getting second hand amp and bookshelf speakers as long as the sound is going to be good and they are easy to set up.
on my mobo I have a pink, black, grey, different shade of pink/peach, green and blue connections.
I really don't know what I'm looking at with hifi speakers and amps so please help!

cheers

Aego M sats cannot produce suitable frequency range, so a larger speaker type 2.0 speaker system will sound better. I'd rather have a pair of Q Acoustics bookshelves than a pair of Aego M 2.1 speakers.

Collister all you need is a stereo integrated amplifier, a pair of bookshelf or standmount speakers, speaker cable, 3.5mm stereo to stereo RCA. You just use the left & right 3.5mm output on your soundcard.

you what what now?
can you show me pictures please?

No they can't. What are the Aego M driver, 1.5-2" sealed box? So the sub will have to reach quite high. Rather have a set of Q 1010 without a sub.

and probably even more listen to RnB and Hip Hop.

this is what I thought, but i was surprised.

Multiquote. Wow, it does work!

Still doesn't really change the fact that the Aegos don't have suitable drivers for producing decent midrange and mid-bass. I think the reason they sound better than most PC 2.1 speaker setups is because--and please don't quote me on this, it's just an assumption--the "sub-woofer" is a 6x9" driver.

Tang-band make 2" sub drivers now... ;) They're pretty useless tho...

Really tho, you need at least 3" drivers to get down to 100Hz with a decent amount of SPL, so I now realise why there is an apparent lack of midbass from the Aego's.

FWIW, my computer sound setup is 2.1 but it's a bit of a mixed bag of bits I had lying around. Some Mordaunt Short satillites (3" mid, 1" tweeter), homebrew tripath amp, Mission m7s sub (8" driver, ported box). Sounds good for music while on the computer, but I wouldn't want to use it for films.

To the OP, I'd go for some bookselves and an amp. A Sonic Impact T-amp is the best amp below a ton, but I'm not very clued up on commercial bookshelves. Try and get ones with 5" drivers at least otherwise you won't get much bass without a sub.

Also, check ebay for speakers within say 20 miles. I've seen some nice floorstanders go for peanuts before now.

Hi collisster

Try the Denon out from your living room, it'll be good.
Trust your ears, have a listen to some of this stuff if you can, you'll know when it sounds good. Play some favorite music on each, to see if you like the sound.

What HI FI said:

Yesterday's system
It performs well, with a punchy and dynamic sound. Considering the size of the satellites, the system integrates well, though it doesn’t offer anywhere near the midrange realism of the best of its newer rivals. Still, it goes very loud, and the treble is sweet and controlled.

Since this was launched, new systems like those from Audioengine and Lars & Ivan have taken the ‘desktop’ system closer to true hi-fi than we would have thought possible. A fine system in its day, but a little dated now.
If you are going for this type/price range then IMO Audioengine A2's are the way to go!

I have Logitech Z4's and they are a bargain at £50 or so. Not just good for windows sounds either.

They are ok for pc speakers, but at £100 pushing for 2nd hand hifi is worth it. more effort but the SQ increase is worth it.

As badbob and the Mad Mike of Subdom said, sonic T and bookshelfs. Hell have my monitor audios for £60 sitting in my parents loft.
