SPECTRE Bond24 discussion [Please use spoiler tags when discussing the plot]

Agree with the comments here...think I got too bored/cba with the storyline and ending up ridiculously overthinking everything to keep myself entertained...

1) where did they stop off for all of their clothes?!

2) why weren't his knuckles all bloody after beating up the baddies?!

3) why, after proving she knows how to handle a gun, doesn't she take a gun later on & kill the bad guys?!

4) If I had a secret hideout in the middle of nowhere that is only accessible via helicopter... I would put remote bombs in them if anyone decided to escape?! & finally... what happened to the poor bird in the first scene??!

5) Song & opening credits where too cheesey & rubbish too.

Best thing was the car and the chemistry with Monica Belluci - not enough of her.

Totally confused and a bit of a rant...

OK, so the old dude in his crocs with no socks has me scratching my head.
When I first heard him speak in the film as he sat down in the meeting, I thought "aha, its number 1 from thunderball etc", who may or may not also be later known as Blofeld in future films.

Now to make things clear, I haven't watched QoS much and have very few memories of CR except it being 2 hours of poker playing so I may have missed critical need to know information.

"Waltz" is being referred to as a name I have not heard before anywhere in the 007 films, but then says that he is Blofeld? Blofeld was crippled in OHMSS and then dropped down a chimney from a helicopter in the FYEO opening credits - who is this croc wearing, retired man really?!

Besides his drill machine, he hardly seems the megalomaniac from the past, but rather another unmemorable bond villain as of late and just another emotional character. He kill his father because Bond was getting more attention? Sounds like a Facebook unfriending argument with some Star Wars mixed in for effect.

The look Connery gave in his eyes could have killed on its own, with Craig it seems more like a schoolboy about to cry from being bullied than a veteran 00 agent.

As for the overall film, the most memorable part for me was the intro song which isn't even all that good.

The big assassin henchman who seemed like the best SPECTRE had to offer? Fugly actor who barely left an impression throughout the film and gave Bond very little trouble.

Christ even the politically incorrect duo of Mr Wint and Mr Kidd caused him more of a hassle!

When I heard the name of the bond film was SPECTRE I was feeling very optimistic about them re exploring the earlier missions and finally fixing some loose ends but after watching it, has left me even more confused. I have hoped for a return to the origins of 007 and some retro villains to battle but have been left bitterly disappointed.

When Q is scanning the spectre ring for prints/dna, only the villains since CR show up. Surely if this is a ring that has been passed thru the spectre ranks, it should have many more dating back from previous films. How hard would it have been to give a little nod to the past and list a few of the Thunderball villains for example in the climax of photos being stuck to the building about to blow?

There was also some lines between Bond and "Blofeld" about their history and IIRC it was only about 20 years old which would put it about the time of GoldenEye's release - many years since his certain death in FYEO. Now this is just a film I know and the original 60's 007 should long be retired and Blofeld possibly dead of old age, but to completely ignore all references of previous events really annoyed me.

007 drives off in his original DB5 yet bares no memory of anything since.
Even the dialogue of how Bonds women all end updying, only dated back to Vespa from CR.... Jill Masterson, Aki, or even the bitter turning point in Bond's life of Tracy Bond, Blofeld was even there when she died, hello??

If they were using an Iconic organisation from the Bond lore which dated all the way back when the baddies were SMERSH, for god sakes don't ignore everything just because it didn't feature Daniel Craig! They didn't in previous films between Bond actors, so why do it now?

For me, these latest Daniel Craig films share the name of the franchise but little else - all the lore of Bond is ignored and all events seem to start from CR creating a parallel 007 timeline which seem more like a Bourne film than a Bond.

In my own opinion, Bond should have stopped time jumping as soon as the Sovet Union collapsed, they were the need for his creation and the gadgets at the time suited his character. Microchip trackers in his blood? No thanks.

I doubt I will watch another.

A man after my own heart, agree with most of that. It seems classic bond is just not understood anymore. There is so much promise squandered and wasted in the Craig outings since Casino Royale. The soul of bond is lost forever I think, quite sad.

Being a big Bond fan in some way. Spectre felt like they were turning him into a more of a invincible batman character rather than a classy english gentleman/ruthless killer.

A part of me feels DC lacks some of the class previous Bonds have put out (and to me looked bored all the way through spectre).
Saying all that Waltz was spot on and seemed to be the strongest character/actor there.

My concern now is who they are going to have for Bond if it isn't DC any more.

Probably not a popular view....but I don't think there's been a decent Bond film since Goldeneye. I think that was where the series really lost it's way.

Shame, as I quite like Daniel Craig. I think he's been wasted on these films. Maybe the time for this type of film has just passed by or the character has just run it's course. Anyway, the box office is still decent so I guess that may keep it rolling - no idea what they're going to do next though.

I said this in the other thread.

Spectre itself, good idea, worked well, interweaved well, enjoyed that concept. Bond going rogue again at the start, seen it a few too many times now. Rehash. Threading back through previous deaths, the reemergence of Mr White, enjoyed that also. the fact someone was spinning the whole thing, playing James along, fine, happy enough with that.
Where I think the missed the mark, was in the culmination, building it all towards this hatred, this question of will he kill him, or let him be captured for information, I just didn't buy it. Even after threading the whole of his life, taking out Vespa, ending M, the Quantum business, fine, but in the end, given who bond is, given the lead up, I think when it comes to shooting the guy, and the big decision to make, I feel simply wouldn't care.
He's a sociopath, a cold hearted device, danger all that in front of him, won't make much of a difference, if big picture means keep Blofelt alive, he simply will. Any other protagonist might shoot (Brad Pitt in se7en built this same premise) but not Bond. He'll kill if he too, won't if he doesn't.
I think it is in this that the film fails.

I found it rather average, just not enough in it for me.
No classic one liners to remember, the action sequences where cobbled together & the story just didn't hold me.

I think you would be less confused if you realised that Casino Royale was effectively a reboot of the series, hence the whole storyline of him becoming 007 in that film.

Totally spot on, even if some of the links in CR and beyond imo where very weak

Was better than QOS but from Craig's pov favourite to worst goes;
Skyfall
Casino (top two close)
Spectre
QoS (by a long way)

Certain scenes were great but as a film a bit meh

Radiohead have just posted their version of the title track on their Facebook page. So much better than Sam Smith's!

Cannot agree with that. I like a lot of Radio heads past work and I am not a fan of Sam Smith but I do think his is the better of the 2 songs for a Bond theme. I personally feel it would have worked better having a Female singer with a more dynamic range singing it though.

Saw this last night, rubbish film.

He went from country to country, didn't know where he was, or what he was doing. I thought the whole storyline was ridiculous.

Classic making a film for making a film sake.

This has to be Daniel Craigs last one

I think I agree, and I'm sorry to say that as I'm a huge Radiohead fan... however, this track just doesn't work as the title track to the film for me. I'm sure the band could make an epic Bond track, but this isn't it... as a Radiohead track its good, but far from their best.

Does anyone know when the Blu/DVD drops?... I've seen conflicting dates, from Feb 9th to sometime in March.... really looking forward to seeing it for a third time.

Bored within 20mins, thought give it time it's bond... 5mins later just as bored. Same old same old. I'm 1h 25m in right now and as bored as i was in the first 10mins.

Summary: it's rubbish
