Speeding in a shed!

Alright, alright I'll admit i'm wrong. Next time I plough into the central reservation I'll do it with confidence thanks to OcUK Crash Specialist central. ;)

Lol, its all about situational factors.

There are just too many variables to say that over 100 Mph "YOU WILL DIE!"

The more modern a car is, supposedly the safer it is. Although having said that, I would rather be in a volvo 740 from the 80s than a honda civic in any 100mph meeting with anything :p

However, nail an immovable object at 100mph in any car and you are in big trouble.

Not sure I would want to do more than 60mph in a old Chavalier
Well, it was quite a few years ago. Before they became 'chav' cars.

At the time it was an awsome motorway cruiser. Probably the most comfortable car I've driven at speed.

The point Headrat makes is that it is safer to drive 100mph in a Z4 than in a Micra/Corsa etc... not that you would be better off in one when it crashes.

The chance of getting a crash is smaller in a Z4 because it is a better car and better at handling the speed so you are less likely to crash.

But in an old car you will be hurt more.

Really?

My Oldsmobile is 22 years old. My Seicento is not. Which one am I more likely to get hurt in?

Hint - it sure as hell ain't going to be the Fiat......;)

Blanket statements like the above quote are great....when they're actually true.

Well, providing you dont crash, then I dont really see how it makes any difference what car you're in.

I am constantly amazed at the speed some people drive heaps of junk. The amount of time I've wondered in amazement as girls in Saxo 1.1's fly past in the outside lane at 100mph right on the limit.

Doesn't bother me if somebody in a car designed for it flashes past but when you've got a cheap, flimsey, underpowered car right on the limit at 100mph, its just reckless and dangerous, no way is it going to stop any time soon if it needs to.

I disagree, my Micra happily cruises at 100 - 110 on the Motorway.

It's a bit shakey at that speed but it's no less safe than any other car, it's down to the drivers skill at the end of the day.

Haha :P when it's at the start of the red it still has 45 miles left, about 320 miles to the tank, 35 quid to fill, quite economical for such a big 998cc BEAST.

It pulls till about 70 okay, after that it runs out of power but after a few mins on the motorway with the foot on the pedal it gradually builds up to 100-110 no problem, then just a case of occasionally topping up the speed tapping the accelorator in 5th.

I want to know why he thought it was a good idea to take a photo with his phone/camera at those speeds in his beast micra.

Lol... was i the only one expecting to see a post about that actual shed on wheels? (similar to the skip/sofa etc...) :D

So what are you tyres rated to, I would be very concerned running at those speeds with tyres that are probably rated to 70MPH.

What are the insurance implications of this does anybody know, I know if your car is rated for Z tyres etc that if you put something else on of a lower rating chances are you wouldn't be insured, surely this is just the same thing just the other way around. Excessive speed in a car with tyres that aren't capable.

You tyres aren't rated to go this speed, the tyres on my Z4 (and Fiat Coupe) are rated to over 155Mph so they are much less likely to blow out due to excessive speed.!

A Nissan Micra happily "cruises" at 100-110mph? :o

What's the score with tapping the accelerator in 5th? What does that do? :p

Sorry but it really doesn't, you say driving at 100 - 110 in you micra is just as safe as doing it in say erm an F430?

I think not!

I'm saying once I'm at that speed, it maintains it with ease, the accelerator just needs pressing every 5 seconds or so to keep it up.
